Ever wondered why your photos feel too orange or too blue? 📸
White balance controls the color temperature of your image using the Kelvin scale — and it works backwards from what you’d expect.
The Simple Rule: Higher Kelvin setting (6500K+) = warmer/orange photos 🔥 Lower Kelvin setting (3000K) = cooler/blue photos ❄️
Why it’s backwards: Your camera’s WB setting tells it what type of light you’re shooting in so it can compensate.
Shooting a golden sunset? If you set your camera to 3000K, it removes that warmth thinking it needs correction.
But set it to 7000K? Your camera adds even MORE warmth, keeping that beautiful golden glow intact.
Shooting in cool shade? Lower your Kelvin to warm it up. Higher Kelvin keeps it blue.
Think of it like this: the camera adds the opposite of what you tell it you’re shooting in.
Once you understand this, creative white balance becomes a superpower 🙌
