The name "Pink Floyd" was created by Syd Barrett, combining the names of two blues musicians: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Their 1973 album, The Dark Side of the Moon, holds the record for one of the longest-charting albums in history, spending 741 weeks (about 14 years) on the Billboard 200. In 1988, they became the first rock band to be played in space when Russian cosmonauts took a cassette of Delicate Sound of Thunder aboard the Soyuz TM-7 mission. They are famous for "concept albums"—records where all songs follow a single theme or story, such as The Wall, which explores isolation and mental barriers. They were pioneers in live concert technology, using circular projection screens, elaborate light shows, and quadraphonic (surround sound) speaker setups as early as 1967.
