TRFor this next plushie…I had some feelings on my mind and heart and just like most artists I decided to put it into my work as some art therapy. This is scratch the opossum. He might not look typical like most plushies. And that’s because he’s not. I created him and made him perfect…and I took a few minutes and stared at him….then I started “ruining” my perfect art piece. My family watched me so confused saying “what are you doing?!”….i didn’t know what I was doing….but I was allowing this FEELING to take me where this plush needed to be. I messed up his ear, I added patches, I messed up his tail and sewed it back together incorrectly, I added a scar/stitched up arm….i cried a little as I did this…not because I thought it was ugly…but because I was pouring into him how I was feeling….once those feeling subsided I stepped back and I looked at the “damage”….but I didn’t see it that way….i saw someone that has been through so much…hurt, pain, trauma, experiences, everything that created bruises, wounds, scars on this once perfect creation…but I didn’t see them as damaged, I didn’t see them ruined pieces of art, I didn’t see them as ugly….i saw something that went through so much that should have could have destroyed them, ruin them, hurt them to where they couldn’t recover….and I saw a soul that battled through everything, with scars, wounds and pain that they were healing from…they weren’t perfect because healing is a process and it’s not the same as before because well we aren’t the same as before…we recognize our scars and wounds and pain as reflections of what we went through but also how we survived and overcame! The wounds might heal and leave scars, the patches are made in heart shapes to symbolize how we heal through self love and making those experiences something beautiful that shows we are on the mend. Every one has a story, everyone has been through things that left thier mark….and everyone despite it all is beautiful. You are beautiful, your scars show your strength for overcoming and healing from your life experiences. So let this plushie be a comforting reminder that despite your scars….you are beautiful worthy and loved and I’m so glad you’re here.
