HE3D Printing with Soap Filament! 🧼
I kept getting ads for this @timeplastusa 3D printable Soap filament, so I ordered some to try out!
The material is basically a wet glue stick, so I dried it out for over a full day on max heat with the @polymaker_3d Polydryer. I still had stringing! 😬
Does it work? Kind of! It strings, smokes, and clogged a 0.4mm nozzle, but I was able to print some stuff out of soap with it!

3DSomeone asked about the Polydryer having the hygrometer right above the silica gel compartment and whether that gives a lower value than if it were placed somewhere else. Good question so let's put one on the other side of the box without any dessicant near it.
The dryer has been running for about an hour and as you can see it is pretty much the same.

I upgraded to Polymaker's Polydryer and storage boxes and noticed some folks were stating they could only achieve 30% RH.
That does not work for me.
I also noticed some 'features' I didn't agree with in the design...temp is not shown on the storage box and the dryer module is having trouble reaching 10 % RH levels that I require for PETG and PLA.
I also noticed an issue with the use of silica gel beads based on the amount of volume available, it is not sufficient for my use.
What is my fix?

I changed out the display in each unit (work in progress). The new ones show the temperature.
Polymaker may have elected to not display the temp. on the dryer because of variance in the dryer modules but I need to validate drying settings each time.

I changed to Active Alumina for the box and I also have spool hole versions in case I need more absorbtion.
Right now, the storage box desiccant is all I needed for PLA and PETG.
For PVA and TPU, I need to reduce RH a bit more so I am going with 3D Molecular Sieve for the box and filament spool holes.
I have been able to keep my filament dry in every box for over a week now.
Just make sure you select the correct volume of desiccants and type to control RH (relative humidity) to acceptable levels.

KAI flipped my @snapmakerinc U1 around for easier filament loading as I use the Polydryer boxes in the back.
Removing these spool holders was quite the task, definitely wanting to document what I thought was excessive force 😅. Thankfully they both survived and will live to spool another day.
