Added plus, if made and cared for properly, these pomanders will completely dry out and can be used year after year. Here are a few tips to ensure they do: 1. The more cloves the better. They’re a natural anti-fungal and prevent the oranges from becoming moldy and act as a drying agent. 2. Cutting decorative skin-deep channels in the orange not only look good, but will help them release moisture. 3. Hanging the pomanders (verses leaving them in a bowl) will also deter rotting. If you keep them in a bowl keep rotating them so they dry evenly. 4. ✨🍊The Victorian Orange Pomander vs. the Medieval and Renaissance Pomander🏰🌲 🍊Today we dive into the deliriously fragrant world of Pomanders. In the Medieval and Renaissance eras, the Pomander was a small globe made of highly fragrant and precious resins, spices, herbs, and musks; which would be worn close to the body, perfuming the air around you and (as it was believed at the time) protecting you from bad air and transmissible illness. Centuries later, a new sort of Pomander developed in the Victorian era: a juicy, ripe winter Orange studded artfully with fragrant cloves that released a lovely, festive fragrance into the air. 🌲I’ve been making Orange Pomanders as part of my Yuletide festivities for as long as I can remember; and I’ve been really excited at the idea of learning how to make a Medieval/Renaissance Pomander for years and year…. so I decided that as a treat to myself this month, that I would finally take that project on! Let me tell you, it was an absolute feast for the senses; and the action of gathering the ingredients, doing the little alchemy it took to make it, and resplending in all the ancient fragrances along that way was both a highly delicious experience and a historically informative one. 🍊This reel is a very short preview of a much longer episode that I made for my Patrons over on Patreon in which I go way deeper into the history of the Pomander and the stories of all the ingredients involved; as well as taking you step-by-step along with me as I made my Pomanders. Cosa occorre * Arance con buccia spessa (vanno bene anche quelle amare) * Chiodi di garofano interi * Nastro adesivo di carta 1cm o elettricista * Nastro di raso * Stecchino di legno 🍊Con il nastro adesivo avvolgi l’arancia. Premi i gambi dei chiodi di garofano il più profondamente possibile nella buccia dell’arancia. Se fosse particolarmente dura e resistente pratica in precedenza un foro con uno stuzzicadenti in legno. 🍊Riempi l’intera superficie delle arance con i chiodi di garofano per evitare che l’arancia durante l’essiccamento marcisca.  🍊Elimina il nastro adesivo e poni l’arancia ad essiccare in luogo fresco e ventilato o molto semplicemente su di un termosifone.  🍊L’arancia durante questa operazione, che dura circa un mese, perderà gran parte del suo volume, eventualmente fissa bene i chiodi di garofano che saranno un po’ fuoriusciti dalla buccia. 🍊Infine passa attorno all’arancia un nastro di raso e fare un fiocco come decorazione o fai un occhiello per appenderlo Come conservarli Il pomander si mantiene perfettamente per diversi anni, il suo profumo si può rinnovare preparando un miscuglio di spezie a base di noce moscata, cannella in polvere, chiodi di garofano, macis con l’aggiunta di qualche goccia di essenza di olio di legno di sandalo. Si mescolano bene le spezie e si mettono assieme al pomander in un sacchetto che scuoteremo delicatamente per far penetrare gli aromi su tutta la sua superficie.
