PO"This Charming Man" is a song by the English rock band the Smiths, written by guitarist Johnny Marr and singer Morrissey. Released as the group's second single on 31 October 1983 by the independent record label Rough Trade, it is defined by Marr's jangly guitar riff and Morrissey's characteristically morose lyrics, which revolve around the recurrent Smiths themes of sexual ambiguity and lust. A different version, from the John Peel Show on BBC Radio 1, was included on the 1984 compilation album Hatful of Hollow.

El sonido "new wave" del grupo es una combinación de punk, dance y música surf.
"Private Idaho" es este sencillo, de su álbum "Wild Planet" de 1980.
Fue el segundo Billboard Hot 100 de la banda, donde llegó al puesto N°74 y al N°5 en el Dance Club Songs, listado al que también ingresaron los sencillos "Give Me Back My Man" y el posterior "Party out of Bounds", ambos del mismo álbum, "Wild Planet".
"Private Idaho" logró el número 11 en Australia.
Gus Van Sant utilizó el título de la canción para su película de 1991 "My Own Private Idaho" (Mi Propio Idaho Privado) protagonizada por River Phoenix y Keanu Reeves.
La canción fue utilizada también en la película de Adam Sandler "The Wedding Singer" (1998), "La Mejor De Mis Bodas" en Latinoamérica.
"Private Idaho" es una expresión estadounidense referida a vivir en un mundo utópico creado por la propia imaginación. El término se genera cuando el Estado de Idaho pasa a formar parte de los Estados Unidos, en 1890, y se proyecta como una tierra de crecimiento donde los sueños pueden hacerse realidad. Se considera a Idaho un lugar muy hermoso y misterioso (es llamado Estado Gema por su abundancia de recursos naturales), y donde pasan cosas fuera de lo común.
"Idaho" en esta canción en particular se usa para representar la paranoia y la sensación de estar atrapado en el propio mundo privado, y no poder salir. Exhorta a darse cuenta de que uno está confinado en un determinado espacio y modo de vida, sin poder escapar de él. El coro refiere a señales de advertencia que intentan mantener a otros fuera de un espacio que es solo nuestro. Se hace referencia además a nadar en una "piscina azul sin fondo" para escapar, aunque en realidad el plan de escape es inútil. Es la sensación de estar atrapado en un ciclo sin fin y no poder encontrar una salida.
El título es también un juego de palabras basado en la frase "Private Eye" (Ojo Privado) que es una forma de mencionar a un detective privado.
