PUPune: Two-Hour Traffic Snarl at Wanowrie Samvidhan Highlights Civic Apathy and Infrastructure Gaps
Pune, April 18, 2026: A major traffic congestion at Wanowrie near Samvidhan Chowk on Saturday evening left commuters stranded for nearly two hours, bringing to light ongoing concerns over poor infrastructure and lack of civic sense among motorists.
A resident who was caught in the gridlock shared his ordeal, stating that despite a petrol pump being just a few meters away, he was unable to move his vehicle due to the standstill traffic. As a result, his vehicle ran out of fuel while he remained stuck at the same spot for an extended period.
According to the commuter, the chaos was not solely due to infrastructure limitations but also because of irresponsible driving, including wrong-side driving, haphazard parking, and lack of lane discipline. “It’s time for us to change our mindset and drive responsibly,” he remarked, stressing that civic sense plays a crucial role in managing urban traffic.
The incident has once again raised questions about traffic management in high-density areas like Wanowrie, especially during peak hours. Residents have repeatedly flagged the need for better road planning, stricter enforcement of traffic rules, and improved coordination between civic authorities and traffic police.
With Pune’s rapidly growing population and vehicle numbers, such incidents underscore the urgent need for both infrastructure upgrades and behavioral change among commuters to prevent similar situations in the future.

कंट्रोल चौकात दुचाकी, चारचाकी तसेच सार्वजनिक वाहतूक वाहनांची मोठी रांग लागल्याचे दिसून येत आहे. कामावर जाणारे कर्मचारी, शाळा-कॉलेजचे विद्यार्थी आणि रुग्णवाहिकांनाही या वाहतूक कोंडीमुळे मोठ्या अडचणींना सामोरे जावे लागले.
स्थानिक नागरिकांच्या मते, या भागात रस्त्यांची अरुंद रचना, वाढलेली वाहनसंख्या आणि वाहतूक व्यवस्थेचा अभाव यामुळे वारंवार कोंडी निर्माण होते. प्रशासनाने तातडीने वाहतूक व्यवस्थापनासाठी उपाययोजना कराव्यात, अशी मागणी नागरिकांकडून करण्यात येत आहे.

SABaner Ramp of University Flyover Opens Today Big Traffic Relief for Pune
The Baner-side ramp of the integrated double-decker flyover at University Junction is set to open, bringing much-needed relief to commuters travelling on the busy Baner-Ganeshkhind Road corridor. The ramp is part of the larger 1.7 km integrated flyover built along the Hinjawadi–chh.Shivajinagar Metro Line, designed to improve traffic flow and support growing mobility demands in the area.
The six-lane flyover includes multiple ramps connecting Baner, Aundh, Pashan and Ganeshkhind, helping reduce congestion at one of Pune’s busiest junctions. With the Baner ramp becoming operational, commuters from nearby areas such as Baner, Balewadi, Aundh and the Hinjawadi IT hub are expected to experience smoother travel and shorter commute times.
