The Voice of the People: We speak about the journey of the Mexica people from Aztlán to the present day, reclaiming our identity beyond colonial borders and foreign definitions. We remember our ancestors, the temples, and the prophecies that guided us, while acknowledging the pain of conquest and the erasure of our voice. We celebrate that beneath every label imposed upon us, we remain Nahua, Mexica, and indigenous—rising again today, united as one people, as the true children of the sun and keepers of Aztlán reborn in every Mexican heart. #nativepride #ourlandourstory #nativeamerican #chicano #mexico

Proud of my Native American roots. MOCTEZUMA II XOCOYOTSIN (1480-1520), the last emperor of Mexico, had a daughter with Acatlan Moctezuma de Tlacopan, named Princess Xochimatzin, later named Mariana Leonor Moctezuma (1505-1562). Princess Xochimatzin changed her real name to a Christian name when she converted to Catholicism. They all did because that was the only way to assimilate and colonize without threat or harm. She was given Ecatepec within present Mexico by Hernán Cortés as dowry if she married Conquistador Juan Paez who later passed away. She kept the land and title and remarried another Conquistador by the name of Cristobal de Valderrama and with him she had 1 child, Leonor Valderrama y Moctezuma who later married Conquistador Diego Arias de Sotelo. During the late 1560s, Diego got into trouble with the Vice Royalty, along with his brother, who was executed for his alleged crimes against the state. Diego was exiled to Spain in 1568 for his participation in the plot of Don Martin Cortes, but his son Fernando Sotelo stepped in to take over the encomienda of Ecatepec from him. Together they had 4 children: Petronila, Ana, Fernando and Cristobal: I have a direct blood to Petronila. PETRONILA MOCTEZUMA (Born 1552), was married to Martin de Gabay, also known as Martin Navarro. and had 2 children: 1. Juana Navarro Gabay married DIEGO DELGADO 2. Ana Francesca Gabay, born in 1573 married LOPE RUIZ DE ESPARZA. My direct blood line comes from both ANA and JUANA. I’ll proceed with Ana. Ana had 11 children: Salvador, Ana Tomasina, Martin, Lorenza, Jacinto, Bernardo, Pedro, Maria, Cristóbal, Bernabe, Lorenzo My line continues with A. TOMASINA & LORENZA RUIZ DE ESPARZA. L. married Captain LUIS TISCARENO DE MOLINA; had 7 children: Juan, Luisa, Francesca, Elvira, Maria, Margarita, Juana. My line continues with FRANCESCA whom married JOSE GABAY DELGADO;had a child named JUAN Delgado. ANA TOMASINA married ….had a child named JUANA whom Martin Manuel de Urzua and named their child Francisca Ana de Urzua y de Esparza. Gathering more information to present my proof so that my family are recognized as descendants of Moctezuma. Because why not? 🤓 #moctezuma

🇲🇽🪶 Do not let others tell you are not Native🪶 🪶This is our next drop, Native Pride, available on March 13 at tresmiquiztli.com, link in our bio. 🇲🇽Most Mexicans have significant Indigenous ancestry, as the population is primarily a mix of Spanish (European) and Native American heritage (mestizaje). Mexico has a high percentage of Indigenous DNA (often 60–80% or higher). #nativeamericans #mexicans #nativetothisland #nativetothiscontinent

Today we introduce Heriberto Prado, linguist and leader of CIPREPACMA, who for more than 40 years has dedicated his life to preserving the voice of his ancestors through the promotion of his mother tongue. His journey includes a rich diversity of songs and books. Heriberto shares a powerful message: that mother tongues must be defended and passed on to new generations. Heriberto is a symbol of resistance in the Mazatec territory, walking alongside Mazatec women and men who fight to protect sacred places, traditions, and ancestral culture. At IRI, we are honored to count on the support of Heriberto Prado and the CIPREPACMA group. Their struggles are inspiring examples of biocultural strengthening and Indigenous resistance.
