Setibanya di gerbang KBRI, Dubes Gina disambut dengan buket bunga cantik dari Naira Anindya Yuwono Putri, siswi kelas 2 SMP di Pyongyang Korean School for Foreigners.
Suasana haru menyelimuti saat Dubes Gina dan Ibu Lisdawati melakukan pengguntingan pita yang secara resmi menandai reaktivasi KBRI Pyongyang setelah terhenti operasionalnya sejak tahun 2021 akibat pandemi COVID-19.
"Pengguntingan pita bukan sekadar pembukaan gedung, melainkan simbol kembalinya kegiatan diplomasi Indonesia secara penuh di RRDK untuk memperkuat persahabatan kedua bangsa," ujar Dubes Gina dalam sambutan.

North Korea was closed for 5 years. It reopened Rason (north east along the border with China and Russia) for tourism in early 2025. After 2 delegations, it was closed again and North Korea has not re-opened for tourism to this day.
In 2025, North Korea renewed the Pyongyang Marathon - this event was closed for 6 years. It allowed ca. 200 international amateur athletes to join the Pyongyang Marathon and travel to North Korea.
The only agency that organizes joining the Pyongyang Marathon is Kory Tours. I definitely recommend them - everything was arranged professionally and the tour includes exploring Pyongyang and joining the Pyongyang Marathon.
There are several categories at the marathon (5km, 10km, half, and full marathon). You can choose what is the best fit for you.
📍One of the activities we had was using the metro (subway) in Pyongyang and exploring Pyongyang as tourists. It was an extremely unique experience. We went underground with escalators where you can see different mosaics and paintings while people were waiting for the subway. We initially only used one part of the wagon, only us. After asking if we can see how people in Pyongyang use the subway, few people came with us to see different stations.
📍People in Pyongyang were so kind, generous and friendly. It is definitely one of the lifetime experiences, to see different cultures and I think what is special about this trip is definitely running the Pyongyang Marathon at the Olympic stadium 🏟️ with cheering from the crowd of 50,000 people.

This interaction happened outside of a department store in Pyongyang as rush hour was winding down. This man approached us to say hello and tell us that he was studying English in the city.
This was such an unprecedented chance to have an unfiltered conversation with a local and so I tried to guide the conversation as little as possible, just providing positive reinforcement so he knew we understood.
