DANEW CPR UPDATES THAT COULD SAVE A LIFE 🚑⚡
What a brilliant day at the Qualsafe Awards trauma training event today, making sure my knowledge is up to date and learning some of the latest updates from the 2026 resuscitation guidelines.
It was fantastic spending the day with so many passionate trainers from across the country, all focused on the same mission — helping more people feel confident enough to save a life. 💙
One of the highlights for me was even getting to meet Nigel and grab a quick selfie 📸 — always lovely to meet the people behind the guidance we teach.
Some of the biggest takeaways from the day really stuck with me
⚡ Defibrillators are incredibly safe.
One of the myths people worry about is getting electrocuted if they touch the person when the AED delivers a shock. In reality, the current you might feel is no greater than standing on a set of electric scales. These machines are designed to be safe and only deliver a shock if it’s needed.
⏱ Minimising pauses in CPR is absolutely critical.
We learned how important it is to keep chest compressions going and to get the defibrillator on as quickly as possible.
The difference between a 10-second and a 20-second pause before delivering a shock can increase survival by up to 52%.
Which means the priority is simple:
➡️ start CPR immediately
➡️ get the defibrillator on as quickly as possible
➡️ keep interruptions to chest compressions to an absolute minimum
Every second really does matter when someone’s heart has stopped.
Days like this remind me why keeping our training up to date is so important, and I can’t wait to bring these updates into my next classes and share them with the people I train. 🌼
