Sound Transit is facing a $34.5 BILLION funding shortfall over the next 20 years
Major projects like Ballard Link & West Seattle light rail could be:�– Delayed ⏳�– Scaled back 📉�– Or potentially cut altogether ❌
Some proposed changes would:�– Stop Ballard line at Seattle Center or Smith Cove instead�– Shorten or delay parts of the West Seattle extension
💰 How they might fill the gap:�• Installing fare gates�• Raising fares over time�• Adding paid parking�• Using clean fuel credit revenue
• Fare gates specifically = higher compliance + more revenue

Those massive concrete blocks are there to balance the lift system, turning a huge steel structure into something that can actually move. The more you look at this bridge, the less it feels like static infrastructure and the more it feels like a working mechanical system built right into the skyline.
