OSHaving kids who love reading is rarely luck.
Its part of who we are. We have books everywhere, its part of our daily routine. We listen to audio books in the morning while having breakfast. We have books in the car so they read (or look at pictures which is just as important) on any car journey.
Its a special bonding time. We snuggle and read. Every bedtime without fail.
We go to bookstores and they get excited about getting new books.
Whwnever i notice they have a new interest i look for books and encourage that. Whether its fiction or nonfiction.
So no its not ‘luck’, its very intentional, planned and consistent.

LO📚 Does reading to your child at an earlier age help them learn to read later on? Absolutely. Here are 3 simple tips to make your read-aloud time even more impactful:
1️⃣Pause and ask questions while reading. Instead of just turning pages, try starting with questions like, “What color is Max’s shirt?” and then move onto more challenging questions as they’re engaged, “What do you think will happen next?” These little moments of conversation boost your child’s comprehension and vocabulary.
2️⃣Sing and clap or tap the syllables out! Singing songs together, in particular, helps your child understand that words are made up of individual sounds. You can also play with syllables whenever you read a book with rhythmic language. As you read, tap your finger on the page once per syllable and encourage your child to join you.
3️⃣Link letters to their sounds. Most young children learn to sing their ABC’s, but to read your child needs to learn that each letter has its own shape and represents a specific sound. For example, you can show your child a printed letter s and say, “ This letter makes the sss sound, like at the beginning of the word snake.”

Before I dive in, I want to say this clearly - this post isn’t about pressure or perfection. You’re not failing if you’re not doing this with your little ones. Every child and family is different ❤️
But if you’re looking for inspiration on how to teach your toddler to read or build early literacy skills at home, I’m happy to share what’s been working for us!
As a school teacher, I’ve always valued literacy, but more than that, I want my kids to enjoy learning. That’s the heart of our approach. My daughter Harper thinks we’re just playing fun games… she has no idea she’s building foundational reading skills along the way. And that’s the goal! 🌟
We play these literacy games 3 to 4 times a week, and honestly, it’s usually Harper reminding me not to skip them 😂

MEWe wanted to cut down screen time, so we made a rule Finish a book during the week and Get a movie time on the weekend. 🎬📖 Screen Time is Earned.
At first, it was a struggle and felt “forced.” she had no other option. Slowly the “forced” reading turned into a genuine love for books.
It started as a rule now it’s became a habit and dives into them naturally.
The Sacrifice: To support her, we stopped watching TV entirely. Even No TV during meal time, even it was hard for us at first! 🛑📺
Set a home rule and stick to it. It’s hard in the beginning, but the results are so worth it. ❤️📚
There is something so peaceful about watching her dive into another world. We might not be readers ourselves, but we could watch her read all day. ❤️

NABuilding a foundation that lasts a lifetime. There is no such thing as too many books. Its definitely an effort for me to take her sometimes even when she does not want to go because I would like then to have this routine.
