How smoothing of the output of a Full-Wave Bridge rectifier works ? After rectification, the output is not pure DC — it still contains ripples. To reduce these ripples, a capacitor is connected across the load. When the rectified voltage rises, the capacitor charges quickly up to the peak value. As the input voltage starts to fall, the diode stops conducting, but the capacitor discharges slowly through the load, maintaining the voltage level. This repeated charging and discharging action fills the gaps between peaks, making the output voltage much smoother and closer to steady DC. The size of the ripple depends on the capacitance value and load current — a larger capacitor provides better smoothing but increases charging current.
