That kind of swing can really tighten soils — reducing oxygen, slowing biology, and limiting how well water can infiltrate when it does rain again Aerating is a simple tool, but when used with the right intent, it can support what nature is already trying to do From a regenerative perspective, we’re not trying to “fix” the land — we’re trying to assist natural processes: • Opening up the soil to let oxygen back in • Creating pathways for water to infiltrate rather than run off • Stimulating microbial activity and root development • Helping pastures recover and respond when conditions improve It’s not about relying on machinery long term — it’s about giving the system a nudge when it needs it, especially after extreme conditions. #springhillbeefco #regenerativefarming #grassfedbeef #paddocktoplate

And still, we plant the grass. Because that grass feeds the cows. Those cows produce the milk. And that milk feeds the domestic and global markets. Yet we have no control over the price we’re paid. We’re fixing a broken industry Foreva Farmers wasn’t built around a trend or a gap in the market. It grew out of something far more permanent. Land, infrastructure and generations of farming. Long before the bottles, this was a traditional working farm. Over time, we realised that the farm held the foundations for a new kind of drinks company. We use water from the land beneath us, renewable energy we generate ourselves and food-grade CO₂ captured on site to carbonate every bottle. What followed was a different approach to drinks. One rooted in self-sufficiency, circular thinking and long-term stewardship. Less about scale at any cost, more about building something that lasts. Driving through the Wiltshire countryside this week I passed field after field of dead, orange grass. More than I have ever seen before, entire landscapes chemically wiped out in one sweep. We’re told this is modern farming efficiency. Spray first, plant later. Have we learned nothing? We know chemicals don’t just disappear. They move through soil, water, insects, birds, and ultimately us, disrupting our endocrine systems. This is happening at an enormous scale across our farmland. Are we to sit by and just let farmers destroy our ecosystems in the name of profit? But hey let's not criticise farmers because they can do no wrong, they feed us and we shlukd be grateful and bow down before them. The justification is that it reduces ploughing and protects soil. But tractors are still driving up and down those fields, soil is still being compacted, and the system still relies on killing everything first. Surely the real goal should be living soil that never needs to be wiped clean in the first place. There are good farmers and who care that are experimenting with diverse rotations, permanent ground cover, agroforestry, and genuinely regenerative systems that work with ecology rather than against it. If we want resilient landscapes, wildlife recovery, and healthy food systems, we have to start asking harder questions about what “normal” farming looks like.
