FRin 1977, bob marley was playing football in paris.
he kicked the ball. hard. something happened to his toe. a sharp pain. the nail tore. he shrugged it off — marley was known for loving football almost as much as music.
but the wound didn't heal.
months later, a doctor finally took a biopsy. the result: acral lentiginous melanoma. a rare, aggressive skin cancer. it had already started spreading.
the doctors had one recommendation: amputate the toe. remove it now. before the cancer moved.
marley refused.
rastafari — the faith he had lived by for over a decade — forbids cutting or removing any part of the body. "the body is a temple," he told them. "i will not cut it."
he agreed only to a minor surgery. the nail and some tissue around it. a skin graft from his thigh. then he went back on tour.
for three years, he acted like nothing had happened. he toured exodus. kaya. survival. uprising. he made "redemption song." he filled stadiums. he looked fine.
but inside, the cancer was moving.
on september 21, 1980, he collapsed while jogging in central park. doctors ran tests. the melanoma had spread to his brain. his liver. his lungs. his stomach.
he was told he had weeks.
two days later, he walked on stage in pittsburgh for what would be his final concert. he was "emaciated" and "looked ill," but he sang anyway. his band needed the money. "his spirit was always stronger than his body," his wife rita said.
he died on may 11, 1981. he was 36 years old.
doctors later said if he had agreed to the amputation, he likely would have lived. a single surgery. a single toe. decades more music.
but marley's faith told him no. and he kept that faith until the end.

هذا الموقف أثّر فيني جدا.. وخلاني أفكر: ليش ما نوصل للعالم إن دينا هو دين السلام والمحبة؟ ومن هنا بدأت رحلتي في دمج هالرسالة بموسيقى "الريقي" 🇯🇲☪️.. عشان أقول للكل إن "السلام عليكم" هي هويتنا الحقيقية.

I was out with my non-Muslim friends when I got the best news over a call. In my excitement, I jumped up and shouted "Allahu Akbar!" 🗣️🙌.. Suddenly, the room went silent. They looked at me with fear, thinking that im gonna do sumthin crazy or kill someone. For them, these words meant something harmful.
That moment hit deep. It made me realize I needed to show the world that Islam is about peace and love. That’s how my journey into "Islamic Reggae" started 🇯🇲☪️ to share the true meaning of Islam and that Allah never said in the Quran say Allah Akbar and kill the innocent people. Islam is Peace.
