HUOn 30 March, the @humanrightscouncil adopted without a vote draft resolution A/HRC/61/ L.13 on the #righttofood.
In its resolution, the Council
-takes note of the reports of the Special Rapporteur on the right to #food, Michael Fakhri, entitled “Corporate power & human rights in food systems” & “Land & the right to food”;
-encourages the Special Rapporteur on the right to food to continue to take into account the links between human rights & trade policy perspectives, agriculture, artisanal & small-scale fisheries, food systems & global governance, & to cooperate with relevant international organizations to ensure that the international trade regime & the global economic architecture are geared to respecting, protecting & fulfilling the right to food;
-also encourages the Special Rapporteur to continue to mainstream a gender, age & disability perspective in the fulfilment of his mandate, & encourages the @fao & all other @unitednations bodies & mechanisms that address the right to food & food insecurity to integrate & effectively implement a gender perspective in their relevant policies, programmes & activities regarding access to food;
-further encourages the Special Rapporteur to continue his collaboration with UN agencies, funds & programmes, & international financial institutions, & to facilitate the cooperation among them, in order to contribute to ensuring that the right to food is promoted further within these organizations, in accordance with their mandates, including for the advancement of smallholders, agricultural workers & artisanal & small scale fishers in both developing & least developed countries;
-calls upon all Governments to cooperate with & assist the Special Rapporteur by supplying all necessary information requested by the mandate holder, & to give serious consideration to responding favourably to the requests of the Special Rapporteur to visit their countries to enable more effective fulfilment of the mandate;
-invites Governments, relevant UN agencies, funds & programmes, #treatybodies, civil society actors, including NGOs, & the private sector to cooperate fully with the Special Rapporteur in the fulfilment of the mandate.
