The chickens kept laying anyway. Families hard boiled them. Saved them. And by Easter Sunday they had weeks of eggs that were finally allowed to be eaten. That’s it. That’s the origin of Easter eggs. Medieval food management. The Easter Bunny? German immigrants. 1700s Pennsylvania. Completely different story. Why did the Pilgrims really come here? Why did they leave Holland after gaining religious freedom? Why were we taught such a clean version of such a violent history? The more I dug into Columbus, the Reformation, and the early colonies, the more I realized: What I was taught wasn’t history.
