When a spinal cord injury occurs, the ability to control these muscles can be impacted, making balance and posture more difficult to maintain. Because my core is weak that's what really impacts my walking as well. During the months leading up to the wedding when I was practicing so hard to walk down my wedding aisle, I actually Injured my back. My spine physically could not take the stress and weight of my body anymore. So after my wedding day I experienced the most excruciating pain I had since breaking my back... But still low-key worth it because I did it, I walked and danced at my wedding (assisted of course) your core muscles play a crucial role in stabilizing your spine. They act like a natural brace, supporting your spine and helping to keep it aligned during movement. A strong core reduces stress on your spine and can prevent injury. This stabilization is especially important for posture, balance, and movements like bending, lifting, and twisting. For individuals with spinal cord injuries, this stabilization can be affected, making it harder to maintain balance and posture.
