LCThis has been one of the hardest things to accept for myself deciding to be one and done as a solo mom. I sometimes think it sounds weird to refer to myself and my daughter as a family, but we are one. As valid and complete as any other family unit. And our family is perfectly complete.

SOI’m taking predictions! 😆 Girl or boy? My gut feeling has changed so much throughout the pregnancy. There have been times I’ve felt it’s a boy, and times I’ve felt it’s a girl. More often than not though I’ve thought boy… which makes me now think it’s a girl and I’ve been wrong the whole time😆🤷🏻♀️ All of my family have predicted boy.

Mostly because not only did they have more choice, the information about the donors was so much richer and not just statistics.
I was also able to see childhood photos and adult photos of him.
The health information about the donor was extensive. So extensive that the clinic here in Jersey said they had never seen anything as detailed as it before. Once it had been delivered they also said that it was top notch.
It was also important that the donor I used not be anonymous. I wanted my son to be able to find out who his donor was.
I was able to listen to an audio interview with the donor and it was that interview that helped me decide that he was the one.
At the time I didn’t know how valuable it would be but I still saw it as a positive was that they have a Sibling Registry.
This is where you can add your child to the registry and see if other families who have used your donor have registered their baby too. This is totally optional, you don’t have to do this.
Myself and the other families have connected and we are in contact. We share as much or as little as we are comfortable with. We share photos and milestones. It makes me feel that we are part of this extended family.
We hope to fly to California to meet up one day in the future. I can’t wait for this moment.”

There are cryobanks all over the country to choose from so it took me a while to narrow things down! I ended up with 12 and then invited my friends to come for the show! I am extra so of course I made a PowerPoint with coordinating music for each donor with all of their highlights etc and in the end we all pretty much settled on the same 2-3 donors. Now the sperm lives at my cryobank and soon embryology will use it to create my embryos! #ivfjourney #singlemombychoice #smbc #becomingsmbc #fertilityjourney.
