MOCamelot (April 2011) is a short lived but genuinely ambitious historical fantasy series that aired on Starz, reimagining the Arthurian legend with a darker and more grounded sensibility than the romanticised versions most audiences grew up with. The show followed a young and inexperienced Arthur stepping into a kingdom he was never raised to lead, navigating political power struggles, war and the constant threat of Morgan, his ruthless half sister who believed the throne was rightfully hers. Joseph Fiennes played Merlin not as a whimsical wizard but as a calculating and morally ambiguous political operator, which was a genuinely fresh take on the character that gave the show a lot of its edge.
Eva Green was the real standout of the entire series as Morgan, bringing a cold intensity and physical commitment to the role that made her one of the most compelling villains on television that year. The show had real production value for its time and the performances across the board were strong enough that its cancellation after just one season felt genuinely disappointing to the audience it had built. Starz pulled the plug before the story could go anywhere near its potential and it remains one of those shows that fans still bring up as a case of a great premise that never got its proper run. Eva Green alone made it worth watching from start to finish.
