TRWhat if you can’t use a tourniquet??? Here’s how to stop bleeding by using rolled or compressed gauze for wound packing!
Remember you can also pack with hemostatic gauze like QuickClot which is also in the Traumoto Pro kits! Then if you run out or need more material, you can put regular gauze in behind it!
After packing a wound, hold for a minimum of 3 minutes to make sure the bleeding has slowed or stopped. In a severe bleed keep pressure for as long as you can or until EMS arrives. Also, if the wound begins bleeding again or isn’t stopping never pull the packing out, keep packing more on top! The goal is the fill the entire wound space and put pressure on the ruptured vessel!
And another concern we always hear is about infection! Remember this is trauma, and in trauma nothing is sterile. Infection can always be handled in the hospital with antibiotics later! In a true life or death scenario, prioritize stopping the bleeding at whatever measures necessary, even if it’s not sterile or even super clean.
