I’m 29 and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit… 1. I just left my corporate job for a one year sabbatical with no other source of income lined up. No backup plan, no safety net, no guarantee. And I genuinely do not know if I just made the biggest mistake of my life or the best decision I’ve ever made. 2. The Sunday scaries used to hit me so hard that I’d start grieving my weekend by Saturday afternoon. Just because Monday was coming and some part of me had already clocked back in. 3. I was more burnt out at 27 than I think I was supposed to be at 47. But I just kept going and called it ambition. 4. I still don’t fully know what I want to do with my life, and I have a LinkedIn that suggests I’ve had it figured out since I graduated university. The gap between who I am professionally online and how I actually feel internally is honestly kind of wild to sit with. 5. I have cried in more work bathrooms than I’d like to admit. And then I’d go back to my desk, and keep working. 6. I spent most of my 20s optimizing for a salary. Not for joy, not for alignment, not for a life I actually wanted, for a random number. And once I got the salary I was aiming for, I realized I had never really stopped to ask myself if this was actually what I wanted. 7. I have sat in performance reviews and said “I’m doing well, I’m really enjoying the work” when what I actually meant was “I am exhausted and I’m not sure this is right for me.” I don’t know if I was protecting myself or just didn’t have the language for it yet. Maybe both. 8. I have a car loan for a brand new car that I financed. Two things I swore I would never do. I had a whole philosophy about it. But, here I am anyway. 9. My favourite job I’ve ever had was bartending. Not corporate life, but bartending. And I spent a long time feeling like I should be embarrassed about that. I don’t feel that way anymore. 10. I am still figuring this out. I don’t have a clean ending. So here I am. On the internet. Figuring it out out loud. If you’re new here, hi. 🤍 #wealthbuilding #sabbatical #9to5 #corporategirl #moneyfreedom

I saved 6 months of expenses before I left job The guilt came anyway. 1️⃣ I didn’t just save for myself I saved so i could still contribute to my home to my parents so no one would feel the weight of my choice 2️⃣ I calculated everything every month every rupee I did everything a responsible person does 3️⃣ And then I was in a shop in Sri lanka holding something I liked and I put it back because money I don’t currently earn doesn’t feel like mine 4️⃣ I spent 11 years never thinking twice about spending much one career break and I pause before buying something for myself 5️⃣ Financial independence and financial identity are not the same thing I had prepared for one I didn’t know I was losing the other 6️⃣ The money was there the permission wasn’t 7️⃣ I catch myself checking if something is a need or a want as if I need to justify existing 8️⃣ I am learning this slowly choosing to pause is not the same as choosing to stop contributing some days i believe it some days i don’t I am documenting this as I go if this felt familiar, save it @makingwithshivani #careerbreak #sabbatical #leavingcorporate #slowliving

surfing pushed me to go to places i'd never been to before, to get out of my comfort zone, to meet people from such different backgrounds, and to see how big the world was outside of my little white collar bubble -- it genuinely changed my worldview and made me reevaluate my priorities and i'm forever grateful for that 🥲 #surfing #surfer #travel #quitmyjob #quitcorporate

I've done something BIG For a while, the phrase "You can make more money, but you can't make more time." has been stuck in my head. Despite working at a fab school with some great people, I have lost the work life balance I've always said was so important. Earlier this year we also failed to sell our house and we had to say goodbye to our dog Poppy. It was then that I really began to reflect on what was important and I realised I just wanted more time with my family. After 15 years in education I thought it was time for a break, so rather than looking for another job or dropping to less days I decided to go all in and request a sabbatical (or career break). My school are really supportive with these kinds of things and of course they said yes. That means for the next year, I have no job or income but I can return to my role in September 2025 if I want or need to. You're probably thinking how on earth can she not have an income for a year? I have of course been a saver for years now and I've pretty much saved most of the money I've made through this page. That means I am able to fully fund a year off without relying on anyone else. I am grateful for these savings and the fact I have this safety net to rely on. Not only that, our mortgage is low and fixed at a great rate until 2026 (I am now super grateful we didn't sell our house and move somewhere bigger). I have very little outgoings and I also earn through this page so despite not having a monthly set income from my job, I should hopefully still have money coming in through work I do on here.  I'm also hoping to use some of my time away from work to see what other opportunities there might be. If no other work comes my way, my worst-case scenario is a year off with my family and a dip into my savings to cover some bills, days out, trips and treats whilst enjoying quality time together. For me, it is win/win either way and I feel very fortunate to be able to do this. It still hasn't sunk in and I don't think it will until September when everyone is heading back to work and for the first time in 15 years, I won't be! If you've got any questions feel free to ask...

#reisen #sabbatical

Did you know the average person lives just 4,000 weeks? The average person in the UK will spend over 3,500 days of their life at work and so many of us don’t even take our full annual leave. One of my last jobs was in a place with unlimited leave - and amazing perks - but even then some people had to be told to take even the minimum allowed in the UK 😮 Life is so short and so precious, and while we can’t live our lives on holiday, it is so important not to spend our lives waiting to get to “the good bit”. When 🦠 hit, I knew so many people who had longed to travel for years, and were due to leave within weeks of lockdown. By the time two years had passed, they were settled again and had jobs/homes and couldn’t take the chance again. You don’t have to sacrifice all stability in your life to travel, it’s perfectly possible to fit it around your annual leave and have some amazing experiences without always waiting for retirement. Here’s 5 ways you can travel while in full time work WITHOUT quitting your job! 🔸 USE your annual leave and max it out, you can often buy more days if you want & by taking them over public holidays you can actually end up with much longer breaks! 🔹 Find a job that involves travel! There are so many paid travel opportunities >> @packslight has a great newsletter with reccs and advice on how to find them! 🔸 Take a sabbatical - a lot of companies offer these and they could be 6 months, a year or more! If you’re looking to travel long-term but don’t want to quit - this is a great option! 🔹 Become a digital nomad and work remotely - there are so many amazing opportunities to work online these days and entire companies that work remotely! 🔸 Transfer to a role abroad - lots of big companies will have departments in other countries - find out what roles are available and see if it’s in a location where you might want to stay or live and travel from there How do you bring travel into your life? #annualleave #holiday #solotravelingisfun #solotravellingwoman #solotravelgirl #digitalnomadlifestyle #digitalnomadgirls #digitalnomadspirit #digitalnomadwomen #sabbaticallife #sabbatical #pto #traveljobs #traveljob #adventurewomen

Episode 3: Why would I worry? The reality is, I’m taking a break and I won’t let worrying about my next move take away from this time of rest. God has ALWAYS provided for me, so no, I’m not worried about the “how” and yeah, I know that sounds crazy. 🤭 Hopefully this can encourage you: where you are and where you want to be is going to take some work, but as you work, learn how to rest — rest in knowing everything IS going to be OKAY. Rest in knowing that YOU are going to be fine. Your Sabbatical Summer moment could simply be taking 1 day off to work towards a goal or dream you’ve had outside of your 9-5. Or maybe it looks like clearing your weekend calendar and just doing NOTHING. I don’t know what a Sabbatical Summer moment looks like for you, but let me encourage you to pause. Take a break. Rest. 🩷 #encouragment #sabbatical #sabbaticalsummer #dontworry #tampacontentcreator #tampainfluencer
