Koalas are a powerful indicator of forest health. 🐨 In NSW, koalas are officially listed as Endangered, following severe population declines caused by habitat loss, fragmentation, fire and disease. A 2020 parliamentary inquiry warned that without strong habitat protection Koalas could be extinct in the wild in NSW by 2050. If we want to save Koalas we need to save their homes, and stop cutting down their feed trees. In these forests the evidence is that they prefer more mature stands and depend on feed trees over 90 years old of select eucalypt species. Because koalas are so sensitive to disturbance, their survival tells us something important. Where koalas can move, feed and breed successfully, many other forest-dependent species can too. In the Richmond River Valley, koalas share these forests with greater gliders, owls, birds, frogs and microbats, all relying on the same healthy forest systems. That’s why koalas sit at the centre of the Richmond River Koala Parks campaign. Protecting their habitat helps keep entire ecosystems functioning. Follow for updates as we share more about the science, the species and the case for permanent protection. Three of our rescued joeys are thriving! 😍 Some of our Koala Rescue Brisbane South volunteers recently visited Angela at the Queensland Koala Society Inc (QKS) to check in on three joeys we’d rescued - Aiko, Delilah and Una. Seeing their progress and the love they receive was a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve together! Each joey had a tough start, found alone and vulnerable, but thanks to fast rescues, skilled hands and a supportive community, they now have real hope. 🍃Aiko – rescued twice on 10 & 18 January from Chester Park Reserve, Mt Gravatt. She was reunited with her mother the first time, but feared abandoned the second. 🍃 Delilah – rescued 10 January on the Bloodwood Track in Whites Hill Reserve, with no mum nearby. 🍃 Una – found in the middle of Algona Street in Holland Park West on 27 December. Attempts to locate her mother failed. During our visit to QKS, we witnessed the delicate, time‑consuming feeding process - every measurement precise, every moment handled with care. Each joey needs to be bottle fed with a special formula every four hours. Angela’s dedication and around‑the‑clock commitment are the reason these little ones have a future. If you’d like to support her directly, Angela is currently fundraising to build individual joey shelters, which will make a huge difference to their safety and development. (See link in comments) ✨ Together, we give these joeys the best chance. ✨ Together, we support the people doing the ‘heart’ work. ✨ Together, we build a kinder community for wildlife. Thank you to everyone who rescues, cares, donates or spreads awareness. Your support truly matters. 💚🐨🌿 #koala #koalarescue #australia #brisbane

Well crikey Moses… Santa didn’t just bring presents this year, he also delivered some critters that needed help 🎅🐨 Just a couple of days after Christmas this koala rocked up needing urgent care. A member of the public found him hit on a big causeway bridge, curled up on the side of the road. He’d taken a solid head knock but incredibly had no broken limbs, which was a huge win given the circumstances. Koalas are a whole different ball game. I’ve done plenty of relocations over the years — backyards, dogs, gas plants, awkward spots — but not many that needed medical care and treatment. This little bloke arrived just before midnight and I was back at work the next morning, so it was a long night of phone calls, learning on the run, and leaning hard on the network. Massive thanks to the koalas of Raymond Shelter for answering my calls in the middle of the night and to Wildlife Victoria for helping get everything lined up. With everyone pitching in, I was able to medicate him, feed him, stabilise him for the day, and get him safely transported down to Raymond Island where the medical team could properly assess him. They actually had a massive day, eight koalas came into care, so he’s absolutely in the best hands possible. I learned a lot from this one. Koalas are fascinating critters — very specialised, very fragile, and very different to most other mammals I care for. I still reckon wombats are cooler, I call koalas tree wombats 😅 but I’m enjoying learning more about them. Hopefully in the future I’ll have the capacity to help more with koalas in between carers, because they definitely take a special setup and skill set. Huge appreciation to everyone who’s donated and bought merch. Helping build this animal hospital means I can have the right gear on hand, and that makes all the difference when emergencies like this roll in. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed. You know who you are. Thanks for being good humans and backing what we do here. On ya legends ❤️

Every day, koalas depend on volunteer carers for leaf collection, rescues, transport and releases 🌿🐨 As the work has grown, my current car is no longer safe or practical. A second-hand four-door 4WD ute would allow: • Safer daily leaf collection • Secure transport of koalas in the cabin • Leaf, insects & rescue equipment kept in the tray • Access to remote bush areas for rescues & releases I’m selling my current car, but I still need $15,000. Thanks to your kindness, $1,301 has already been raised 💚 Any donation — or even a share — truly helps. Thank you for supporting koalas and the carers behind the scenes. — Rachel#KoalaCare #WildlifeRescue #SaveOurKoalas #AustralianWildlife #SupportWildlife KoalaRescue

🍃This year, instead of a New Year resolution, we chose one word. 🐨 Koalas. Because koalas are now listed as endangered across NSW, QLD and the ACT. In some areas their numbers have dropped by more than half in the past twenty years. Habitat loss, bushfires, drought and disease are taking a heavy toll on one of Australia’s most loved icons. We do not want to be the generation that quietly watched them disappear. Thank you Dylan @wildlifesidekicks and @gumbuya_world for helping us do a special koala nose touch greeting with Saint 🍃🐨🍃 So our Junior Wildlife Rangers are pledging this year to koala conservation action 🌿 We are calling out for info on projects that we can get the rangers involved in, koala conservation projects like… or something new. Across QLD, NSW and VIC 🌱 Tree planting and habitat restoration 🐨 Citizen science and monitoring programs 🌳 Community koala corridors 📚 Conservation workshops and awareness initiatives If you are running a koala project, planning a planting day, or have an idea that can involve kids in protecting koalas, we would love to hear from you. Let’s protect these fluffy Aussie treasures together 🩷🐨🩷 #KoalaConservation #JuniorWildlifeRangers #ProtectOurKoalas #CommunityCollaboration

Koalas don’t just need trees. 🐨 They need forests that are whole, connected, and alive. They need safe corridors to move, mature feed trees to munch on, and protection from ongoing habitat loss. Without these, their homes are just fragments, and survival becomes a daily struggle. The Richmond River Koala Parks would change that. Instead of patches of forest, it would secure tens of thousands of hectares of connected, public native forest. Real habitat for koalas and 130+ other threatened species. This isn’t just about saving one species; it’s about protecting a genetically distinct koala population that’s still recovering from bushfires and decades of logging and clearing. Koalas are slow movers and picky eaters, which is why connected, intact forests are essential to maintain viable wild populationsl. Retaining their mature feed trees and Pprotecting these forests at the right scale is the only way to ensure they thrive here long-term. 💚 Follow our page to watch this campaign build momentum and see how you can help secure their future. 👉🏼 Sign the petition to show your support! richmondriverkoalaparks.com/petition . . . #Koalas #RichmondRiverKoalaParks #ForestConnectivity #WildlifeConservation #NSWNature

Did you catch our recent progress update? Check out this video to see how far this tree planting project has come in under 5 years. The once-bare paddock is now a baby koala forest and is already being used by koalas and other native wildlife. This is the perfect example to show that where there is action to take, there is still hope. With your support, we will continue planting more projects just like this one to create a better future for wild koalas.
