REI've been working with an extremely patient client who has commissioned me to design and make a piece in jesmonite (what you can see is just one element of it). I suggested that it would look great in scagliola and thanks to their patience I've been experimenting and developing (still lots to learn!). Any rough edges and the base will be filled and sanded until only clean lines and beautiful surfaces remain.
It doesn't get old, cutting the plaster back to reveal the marble surprise behind, which is why I wanted to share this! I think this commission is going to look amazing in full scagliola, which I will reveal later this year.
Next year will bring on more learning as I embark on two more scagliola apprenticeships through the @qestcraft emerging maker award.

I spent the early part of the day cracking the surfaces to create that drama of broken reflections and light of the buildings in the water.
