Become a detective with chemistry! Learn how to find out who ate the last candy leaving behind only wrapper! โญ• Materials: - Glass - 3% Hydrogen Peroxide - Citric Acid - Iodine - Sheet of White Paper โญ• Instructions: (1) Mix 3% hydrogen peroxide, citric acid, and iodine in a glass. (2) Leave your fingerprint on a sheet of white paper. (3) Cover the glass with the paper, ensuring the fingerprint side is facing the mixture. (4) Let it sit for 15 minutes. (5) Watch the magic happen as the prints appear! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฎ โญ• Science Revealed: Iodine transforms into vapor, which then dissolves into the sweat and grease deposits left on the paper from fingertips. This is how the fingerprints becomes visible, as the iodine interacts with these substances, revealing the unique patterns. Itโ€™s National Science Week here in Australia and the perfect time to turn an ordinary bowl of milk into a swirling masterpiece of colour! All you need is: - shallow dish of milk (we used milk that had just expired!) - some food colouring (multiple colours) - some soap and - a cotton swab. Please note that not all food colouring works for this experiment! Like โค๏ธ, follow and include the word MAGIC in your comment to receive the link to the food colouring we used for this experiment. The follow is to ensure you will receive my message. Start by pouring milk into your shallow dish until it just covers the bottom. Drop a few drops of food colouring into the milk, use different colours for a vibrant effect! Dip a cotton swab into the soap, then gently touch the surface of the milk ๐Ÿ’ฅ Explanation: Milk is made up of water, minerals, proteins and fats. When the soap enters the milk, the soap and the fat in the milk start a reaction. The soap molecules not only break the surface tension of the milk, they also try to connect/bind the fat molecules in the milk which causes the movement within the liquid. Normally this process would be invisible to you, but the food colouring helps you to see all of the movement taking place. If you love doing science experiments with your kids, check my feed or story highlights for lots of fun and easy science experiments to do with your kids at home. Have you done this Magic Milk experiment with your kids? Iโ€™d love to know if your kids are into science ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜„ #scienceweek #scienceforkids #STEMactivitiesforkids #simpleplayideas #homeschoolingideas #playathomemummy #funbudgetplay

This is one of those - DONโ€™T TRY AT HOME - experiments that I wanted to do for the longest time. While the experience is undeniably mesmerizing, itโ€™s not just a light showโ€”itโ€™s also a fantastic learning opportunity. Let me know if you hear a โ€˜whooshโ€™ sound. โญ• Materials: - Bottle - Rubbing alcohol - Matches โญ• Instructions: (1) Pour rubbing alcohol into your bottle. (2) Gently roll the bottle on its side, letting the alcohol vaporize and fill the inside. (3) Remove any excess liquid alcohol. (4) Stand the bottle upright. Now, light the match and bring it close to the bottleโ€™s neck. (5) Experience the captivating โ€˜whooshโ€™ as flames dance out from the bottle. โญ• Science Explained: What youโ€™re witnessing is the ignition of alcohol vapour. Alcohol has a lower ignition temperature than many substances. When vaporized, its molecules disperse and mix with oxygen. Upon introducing a flame, the vapour quickly combusts, resulting in the enthralling flame show! #TheDadLab #scienceisawesome #scienceisfun #sciencelovers #physicsfun #homeschool #beauty_of_science #chemistrylab #chemistryisfun #chemistryclass #chemistryeducation #chemistryteacher #chemistryexperiments #scienceexperiments #stemeducation #steameducation #scienceeducation #scienceweek

Science Week is coming up (on the 10th) so what better time for some easy-peasy STEM-in-a-Jar activities! Dancing Kernals you just need water, baking soda, vinegar, Kernals. Mix together and watch them jump around! When the vinegar and baking soda are combined, they create a gas (carbon dioxide) which causes bubbles and pushes the corn to the surface. They then sink and it happens over and over! The DIY lava lamps you need oil, water, acrylic paint and seltzer tablet. The reaction you see is similar in that the seltzer tablets causes bubbles to push the paint to the top which then sink again and create a lava lamp effect. Have you tried either of these? Give them a go, kids love them ๐Ÿ˜ #scienceweek2024 #scienceweek #stem #steam #stemactivities #stemforkids #stemexperiment #playideas #kidsactivities #learningthroughplay #scienceforkids #playmatters #playislearning #montessori #montessoriathome #sciencefun #diylavalamp #playroominspo #homeschooling #earlylearning101 #earlylearning

An โ€˜out of this worldโ€™ #RareBook! ๐Ÿช โ€˜Dialogoโ€™ was written by the famous astronomer Galileo in 1632. The book supported the theory that the Earth revolved around the Sun, not the other way around. While this is common knowledge today, it was very controversial at the time. The front page shows Ptolemy and Aristotle โ€“ who believed that the planets circled the Earth โ€“ in a debate with Copernicus, who believed the planets circled the Sun. Following publication Galileo was arrested, tried and imprisoned for heresy. The sentence was converted to permanent house arrest, but the printing of his work was forbidden. โ€˜Dialogoโ€™ remained on the Index of Prohibited Books in Rome until 1835. #StateLibrary #StateLibraryNSW #ScienceWeek #Astronomy #Science @nationalscienceweek
