The words you say to yourself shape how you feel about yourself. Constant negative self-talk — “I’m not good enough,” “I always mess up,” “Who would ever like me?” — slowly erodes self-esteem, even if no one else is saying it. Healing starts when you notice the critic, question it, and start choosing words that nourish rather than punish. Taking the time to write it all out can be very therapeutic. #mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #therapyinanutshell #Emotionprocessing #NegativeSelfTalk #SelfEsteem #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCompassion #InnerCritic

You don’t lose motivation.
You burn it out. Most people aren’t lazy.
They’re exhausted from pushing without recovery. The Monk’s Mindset taught me this:
Motivation fades, but rhythm remains. If this feels familiar, you’re not failing.
You’re tired. Comment FLOW and I’ll send a gentle practice 🤍
If this felt like permission, pass it on to someone who needs it.

To the strangers reading this, I’m proud of you. You didn’t know what you didn’t know. And that’s human. Forgive yourself for being human. Don’t condemn yourself for the shadows you stood in before you found the light. You were learning in real time. That’s not failure. That’s life. Look at how far you’ve come. Most people get self-compassion wrong. They think it just means being nice to yourself, but if that’s all you do, it feels fake. Real self-compassion has two steps. First, acknowledge your struggle. Then, encourage yourself. Most people skip the first part, and that’s why motivation backfires. Validate first, then motivate. #selfcompassion #selfcompassionjourney #selfgrowth #selfgrowthjourney #selfacceptance #selflove #selflovejourney #personaldevelopment

1. The ritual was called “Itúfọ̀ ìtìjú” — burying the shame. Yoruba healers used it when someone carried shame that wouldn’t release through talking. The person didn’t work on self-compassion exercises. They externalized the shame completely. They’d place an object (cloth, stone, carved figure) on the ground to represent the shame. They spoke to it — told it everything it had cost them — then buried it while saying: “You are not me.” 2. Colonial missionaries called it “primitive exorcism” and banned it in the 1800s. But in 2022, Harvard researchers studying embodied cognition tested it with shame-based trauma survivors. They discovered that physically separating from an object representing shame changes proprioceptive self-boundaries. Results after 3 sessions: • Shame intensity decreased 79% • Self-criticism dropped 73% • Body image improved significantly • Participants described feeling “clean” for the first time in years 3. The modern protocol: • Choose an object to represent your shame (doesn’t matter what) • Place it on the ground in front of you • Speak directly to it: “You have cost me joy, connection, peace, years of my life” • List everything this shame has stolen from you • Dig a hole and bury it (or submerge it in water, seal it in a box) • As you cover it: “You are not my identity. You are not my essence. You stay here.” The physical separation teaches your brain that shame is something you experienced, not something you are. 4. CBT therapists pushed back hard when the study published. One prominent psychologist wrote: “This lacks the cognitive restructuring necessary for lasting change.” Translation: our 16-week shame resilience programs just got disrupted by a shovel and 45 minutes. 5. Try it with one core shame you’ve carried for years. Yoruba teaching: “Shame held in the body becomes the body. Shame buried in the earth becomes just earth.” You’ve tried thinking your way out of this. Maybe your body needs to feel the separation. Comment IFS and I’ll send you the details on my IFS workshop (April 11th), it’s where we do exactly THIS work together. The moment I started treating myself like my own daughter, everything changed. Like… I had this part of me that would spiral every time I made a mistake. Used to just try to shut her up, push through, move on. Told her she was too much. IFS taught me to actually turn toward her. Ask her what she needed. Treat her the way I’d treat a little girl who was scared. And she stopped running the show. That’s the shift. Not fixing your parts. Not overriding them. Genuinely being with them! The way you would with someone you loved. That’s what we’re doing April 11th. ⚠️ Precaution: Your inner critic might resist this exercise or try to interfere. If it does, that’s normal — just notice it, and gently return to the practice with compassion. 💙 Compassionate imagery sits at the heart of Compassionate Mind Training. Why? Because your brain responds more deeply to images and feelings than to words alone. When you create an image that embodies compassion, you give your mind a new inner voice — one that is wise, steady, kind, and committed to your wellbeing. Here’s how to try it: ✨ Imagine a compassionate figure — it could be a person, role model, animal, nature, light, or even an object. ✨ Infuse it with qualities of compassion: wisdom, strength, gentleness, patience, acceptance. ✨ Notice how you feel sitting before it — safe, cared for, encouraged. That feeling is your power. 🌱 Your critic doesn’t get the final word — your compassion does. 💬 I’d love to know: What did your compassionate image look like for you? 📌 Save this practice for the days your critic feels loud. #health #wellness #healing #mentalhealth #compassion #selfcompassion #selflove #healing #cbt #compassionfocusedtherapy #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters

There is a massive difference between being alone and being lonely. Walking alone is a deliberate choice to protect your peace over your proximity to chaos. It’s in these solo moments that you learn what you are truly made of. You aren't lonely; you are in a season of self-discovery. This strength will be the foundation for every healthy relationship you build in the future. #SelfValidation #InnerPeace #LicensedProfessionalCounselor #MentalWellness #SelfCompassion
