Many parents notice their child humming quietly, flapping their hands near their eyes, rocking back and forth, or repeating certain sounds or movements. These behaviours are known as stimming (short for self-stimulatory behaviour). Stimming is a natural way for children — particularly those with Autism or sensory processing differences — to help their bodies and brains feel calm, organised, and regulated. It can help children manage big emotions, overwhelming environments, or sensory input. Common forms of stimming include: • Auditory stimming: humming, repeating words or phrases, making rhythmic sounds • Visual stimming: staring at lights, spinning objects, or moving hands near the eyes • Vestibular stimming: rocking, jumping, or spinning to seek movement • Olfactory/Gustatory stimming: sniffing, licking, or chewing objects Stimming is often misunderstood, but it can play an important role in sensory and emotional regulation. In therapy, the goal is not to simply stop stimming. Instead, we work to understand the purpose behind the behaviour and support children in developing safe, functional ways to regulate themselves and communicate their needs. At Omonx Speech Therapy, we support children through sensory regulation, communication development, and social interaction, helping them feel safe, understood, and confident in their world. Head shaking repeatedly without a clear reason Sensitivity to certain clothes, textures, or tags Rocking the body frequently, Unusual hand positioning or repetitive hand movements These signs may look small, but they can reflect how a child is processing sensory input and engaging with the world around them. Not every child showing these signs has autism, but consistent patterns are worth noticing early. Early identification leads to better support, better outcomes, and a more confident child. If you’re noticing these signs, trust your instinct and seek guidance. Follow @evolvable_ot more simple, real guidance for your child’s development. When a child’s nervous system lives in constant overwhelm, every small thing can feel huge. Transitions feel harder. Frustration builds faster. Emotions move through their body like a lightning strike instead of a wave. A lot of parents see the behavior but miss what’s underneath it. The nervous system is the control center for how the brain processes stress, emotion, stimulation, and regulation. When those signals fire too intensely or too quickly, the child isn’t choosing chaos. Their system is simply reacting faster than it can organize itself. That’s the piece we started paying attention to. The patches she’s wearing work through vibrotactile neuromodulation. They interact with the sensory receptors in the skin and send signals through the nervous system pathways connected to emotional regulation and cognitive control. Nothing enters the bloodstream. The body is receiving a signal that helps the nervous system regulate its response to stress and stimulation. It was the everyday shifts that started showing up at home and at school. Calmer responses. Faster recovery after frustration. A nervous system that seems to settle instead of escalating. If you’re raising a kid who feels everything intensely, you know how much those small shifts matter. We use Focus, Peace, and Joy. Comment TRIAL and I’ll send you the link to try them. #adhdparenting #nervoussystemsupport #emotionalregulation #parentingadhd #sensoryprocessing superpatch

If you’re a parent of a child who struggles to sit still, focus, or regulate their energy… this is for you. This 9-year-old came in constantly moving, needing stimulation, unable to fully settle. But just a few minutes into the Sensory Learning Program at Arizona Vision Therapy, his nervous system began to regulate. No one told him to stop. No one took the fidget away. His body simply didn’t need it anymore. That’s the power of addressing the connection between the eyes, brain, and body. Our Sensory Learning Program helps children with: • ADHD • sensory processing challenges • learning difficulties • behavioral regulation issues • focus and attention struggles By giving the brain the input it needs, we often see kids become calmer, more focused, and more confident… naturally. This might seem like just a simple balance test but... it’s actually a powerful way to check for retained primitive reflexes that could be impacting focus, coordination, and emotional regulation. What’s happening when we do this? 🧠 We’re testing for the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) & Vestibular Function. The TLR is a primitive reflex that should disappear by early childhood. If it’s still active, it can cause: ❌ Poor balance & coordination ❌ Difficulty with focus, attention, and sitting still (ADHD symptoms!) ❌ Motion sickness or dizziness ❌ Struggles with reading & learning ❌ Clumsiness or trouble with sports 💡 Why does this test work? Closing the eyes removes visual input, so the body has to rely on the vestibular system (balance center in the brain). Putting the feet together reduces stability, making it easier to see if the body wobbles or falls. Dropping the head forward challenges core strength and postural control. If a child falls over or can’t stay still, it could mean their TLR is still active, making things like focus, coordination, and emotional regulation much harder. 🌊 This reflex is directly linked to ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and sensory struggles. If a child struggles with balance when their eyes are closed, their brain may still be stuck in an early developmental stage—affecting their ability to sit still, focus, and learn effectively. 💡 Want to learn how to test & integrate reflexes at home with 100% NATURAL remedies? 🔥 Comment “GUIDE” to grab our Ultimate Primitive Reflex Guide, which gives you step-by-step exercises to help ADHD, autism, anxiety, dyslexia, sensory issues, and more—without expensive therapies or medications! #ADHDHelp #AutismSupport #SensoryProcessing #BrainTraining #PrimitiveReflexes

Sometimes what looks like “sensory needs” might actually be sensory deficiencies — something the child’s system is missing or not processing well. When we label everything as “just sensory,” we might overlook the deeper need behind the behaviour. The goal isn’t to dismiss sensory challenges, but to understand what the child’s nervous system is truly asking for. Because when we identify the missing input, we can support the child in the right way — not just the easy way. 🧠✨ #sensoryprocessing #childdevelopment #occupationaltherapy #neurodevelopment #autismawareness therapyforkids

Routine isn’t just a preference for me — it’s how I regulate. Having structure and knowing what to expect gives me a sense of calm in a world that can feel loud, chaotic, and overwhelming. Predictability isn’t boring. It’s safety. When plans change last minute or my environment suddenly shifts, it throws off my entire system. And that’s not being difficult — it’s just how my brain processes the world. 😮‍💨 Personal space is another big one. Social situations can be tough. Sometimes I crave connection but still need distance. It’s not that I don’t care — it’s just that my sensory and emotional boundaries are different. Learning this about myself changed everything. It helped me unmask, show up more authentically, and communicate my needs with less guilt. And if you relate to this — you’re not alone. Chinning is more than a “quirk” — it’s sensory regulation 🤍 For some autistic children, pressing their chin into objects helps them feel calm, grounded, and safe in their body. What may look unusual to others can actually be a powerful way to self-regulate. Understanding > judging. Always. #AutismAwareness #SensoryProcessing #Neurodiversity #AutismSupport #sensoryseeker

School-based OT is about access. If a student is struggling to regulate, manage materials, or complete classroom tasks, we step back and ask: What’s getting in the way of participation? Sometimes we build underlying skills. Sometimes we adapt the environment. Often, it’s both. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s about meaningful participation. #schoolbasedot #pediatricot #occupationaltherapy #sensoryprocessing

Comment UNLOCK to learn about the 7-Step Autism Action Plan that’s helping families see real progress ⬇️ Autism is a world of contradictions that can leave parents feeling both amazed and exhausted. Your child might struggle to say "hello" but can recite an entire movie script word-for-word. They might melt down over a tiny change but show incredible focus on their special interests for hours. These aren't just "behaviors"—they are signs of a brilliant mind trying to navigate a body that feels overwhelmed. Too often, the world sees the label or the symptom and misses the child underneath. They treat the defiance instead of the distress, and the picky eating instead of the gut pain. But when we stop just managing behaviors and start regulating the nervous system and healing the gut, the "switches" begin to flip. A child who was once "stuck" begins to communicate, connect, and thrive. You don't have to just "manage" your child's autism. When you address the root biological causes, you unlock the potential that has been there all along. Your child is capable of incredible progress when we treat them as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. So many of our primitive reflexes live in the brainstem — the most foundational part of the brain responsible for survival, regulation, and early motor patterns. The rooting reflex is one of those early reflexes. It helps babies turn toward touch on the cheek to find nourishment. But when this reflex doesn’t fully integrate, it can continue to impact speech, feeding, and sensory integration well beyond infancy. We used medical-grade red and near-infrared light over the brainstem to support cellular energy (ATP production), oxygenation, and healthy nervous system regulation. When the brainstem has the energy and regulation it needs — and inflammation is reduced — reflex pathways are better able to mature and integrate. The vibration to the cheeks provides specific sensory input to the trigeminal nerve pathway, helping the nervous system integrate the rooting reflex. When we strengthen the foundation, higher-level skills can build more easily. ⚠️Signs a retained Rooting Reflex may be present: • Speech articulation challenges • Feeding sensitivities or picky eating • Discomfort with touch on the cheeks or face • Drooling or open-mouth posture • Difficulty with oral motor coordination ✨If you’re wondering whether low level laser therapy or reflex integration could support your child, DM us to learn more about our occupational therapy services & our NeuroConnect Intensives. #neuroadaptivetherapy #reflexintegration #primitivereflexes #neurodevelopment #sensoryprocessing
