No one told me to seek out OT for Nell. There was no checklist or big red flag. Just a feeling in my gut that she could benefit - I think every child can honestly. Even if everything seems “fine enough.”⁣ ⁣ And now… just more free, more confident, more 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.⁣ ⁣ If you’re wondering whether to get your child evaluated - just know, there is never a downside to getting more support for your kids and listening to that feeling. You’re not labeling them. You’re opening doors for them…and maybe even changing the course of their life. Some things I saw that led me to @wonderkidstherapycenter - a deep need to control things - things not feeling “perfect” the ways her socks were folded (as an example) - fixating on these things and it preventing her from smooth transitions - big restraint collapses after a day at school (big emotions over seemingly very small things)

It’s the little wins 🥹✨ I’ve gotten a few comments around safety at school & body language.. I’m so grateful for the care in those comments. But I assure you, school safety isn’t a concern. We take non verbal communication cues serious around here & wouldn’t keep any schedule at the expense of her well-being 🤍 The vibration plate was an important piece in today’s routine & something we’re going to work on incorporating more before walking out the door ⚡️ The vibration plate we use is linked in my showcase if you want to explore that as a support option for you or your babe ✨ #specialneedsteenager #disabledteen #specialneedsmom #sensorysupport

Vibration plates can be a powerful tool for regulation with children when used intentionally! 👣 When vibration is combined with functional activities and careful supervision, it can help to support the body AND the brain 🧠🤝🧍 Every child responds differently to this style of input, which is why observation and flexibility matter so much. Just one minute at a time on the vibration plate is a great place to start! ⏲️

🌟 Why Using Timers For Autistic People Helps 🌟 🔒 Sometimes, understanding the world can be like solving a complex puzzle. As an autistic individual, I thrive on routine and predictability, and that's where timers come to my rescue! ⏰ ⌛️ Time has a unique significance in my life. By utilizing timers, I gain a sense of structure and organization that helps me navigate the challenges of everyday life. It's like having a reliable compass guiding me through the vast sea of unpredictability. ⏳ Timers assist me in transitioning between tasks, making each transition smoother and less overwhelming. They provide a visual representation of time, allowing me to manage my time effectively and allocate it appropriately to different activities. 🔄 🎯 Moreover, timers serve as a concrete reminder, preventing me from getting too engrossed in a particular task. They help me stay on track and maintain a healthy balance in my daily routines. With a gentle beep or vibration, they signal me to shift gears, ensuring I don't lose track of time. ⏱️ 🌈 Embracing timers has had a positive impact on my life, boosting my independence and fostering a sense of empowerment. They enhance my time management skills, enabling me to complete tasks efficiently and meet deadlines without feeling overwhelmed. 📆 💡 Additionally, timers can be instrumental in mitigating anxiety and reducing sensory overload. By setting specific time limits for activities, I can focus on the task at hand, knowing that there is a definite end point. This knowledge helps alleviate stress and allows me to concentrate better. 🧠 ✨ So, here's to all the timers that have transformed my life! Let's spread awareness and celebrate the power of timers in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. 🙌🌟 #AutismAwareness #TimersForAutism #StructureAndRoutine #TimeManagement #Independence #SensorySupport #EmbracingDifferences #AutismAdvocate #Empowerment #UnderstandingAutism #Acceptance #Neurodiversity

To the parent walking this path… I see you. The questions, the worry, the moments where you wonder if you’re doing enough… Your child is not behind, not less, not something to “fix.” They are uniquely wired, deeply feeling, and beautifully complex. There will be hard days—but there will also be breakthroughs, connection, laughter, and moments that remind you just how extraordinary they are. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to stay present, keep learning, and lead with love. Let’s talk sensory-based activities that can help decrease the frequency of meltdowns. As a reminder, meltdowns are not the same thing as tantrums. Meltdowns happen when your child is overwhelmed or overstimulated and their brain goes into fight-or-flight mode. Not all toddlers have meltdowns regularly. If your toddler is having meltdowns frequently, it can be a sign that they are having trouble with sensory processing and integration. OT can help with this! What questions do you have? Let me know in the comments! 👋🏼 Hi! I’m Marissa, a pediatric OT with a focus on early intervention (ages 0-3).
