ANIf you ever see a shark in the ocean, the worst thing you could do would be to run away from it. Running from a shark triggers a predatory response in them and makes them feel like you are prey. If you stand your ground, make eye contact, and remain calm, this will drastically reduce your chances of continuing to get approached by the shark. If you absolutely needed to as a last resort if the shark is too close, you can firmly place your hand on top of the shark’s head and guide them away from you. These are all tips in the case you unexpectedly encounter a shark while diving or snorkeling, please do not seek these types of interactions with sharks without a professional guide. *This video is done as a demonstration by a professional, please do not attempt*

back in 2016, before cages were redesigned and regulations were looser than they are today?
Milana, a 13–15 ft great white, decided she wanted inside the cage.
This all happened in under 50 seconds.
It starts when she bites the air supply to a cage 40 ft down, triggering a burst of bubbles. She swims through it, passes beneath us, then turns and comes straight back . . . nose-diving into the upper cage. Inside are dive guide Yann, my friend Kate, and two divers below.
Yann and Kate press themselves against the bars just in time. One powerful flick of her tail and Milana wedges herself between the bars.
Then everything changes.
She flips upside down and goes into tonic immobility—a trance-like state that stops her from thrashing. That moment likely saved her life.
What you might miss: the crew is already lifting the cage—carefully keeping it submerged and clear of the boat.
Everyone stayed calm. Everyone stayed safe.
Milana made it out.
An unreal moment—and a reminder of just how unpredictable these animals can be.

MIBull sharks are one of the most intense shark species I’ve ever worked with. They have higher testosterone levels than any other shark on Earth, which can make their behaviour unpredictable and challenging to dive with. 🦈
This creek, in particular, is what’s known as a shark nursery, where younger sharks feed and grow during the early years of their lives before they’re large enough to head back out into the open ocean. 🤿
In an episode coming to YouTube over the next few days, you’ll see us night-snorkelling with several of these sharks in this very creek, while surviving for three days in and around the mangroves. 🎥
