I love having shelf stable foods in large amounts in my basement! Even before we owned land, I kept buckets of dried goods in my basement apartment. Especially for organic and high-quality ingredients, it saves SO much money buying in bulk versus buying in small packages at the grocery store. I figured up the savings a few years ago, and it was truly astounding. I also love that when the grocery stores are struggling with supply, I don’t have to worry about it. Also, if I’m baking and run out of flour or sugar in my containers upstairs, I can just run to my basement and fill up my containers. No need to call the neighbors or do emergency runs to the store. I get sugar, oatmeal, wheat berries, and rice from Azure Standard. We grow the dent corn, dried beans, and popcorn on her own land. They’re the perfect self-sufficiency foods. The salt we get from Redmond real salt. I have a discount code for Redmond salt in my bio if you’re interested. Your welcome.😉 #redmondrealsalt #MoreThanFarmers #FoodSecurity #GrowYourOwnFood #Homesteading

Long term storage foods are ingredients that can store long term and even indefinitely if properly packaged and kept in appropriate conditions. These can be single ingredients or even full freeze dried meals. Look for shelf stable foods that you already use in your kitchen so that you can rotate them as needed. If you plan your food storage around your kitchen pantry you will save money because food isn’t forgotten or wasted. I've been asked for this one a few times. And I'm so very sorry if you are one of the ones that have been waiting on it! I film things as I make them, and I haven't needed bouillon powder in awhile so... . But here it is!! . In the video is a double batch, but I'll write down a single batch here, and it fits nicely in a pint jar or something similar :) . 1 cup nutritional yeast 2 TBSP of the following: Salt Garlic powder Onion powder Oregano Rosemary Basil 1 TBSP parsley 2 tsp pepper . Two options here: you can just shake it and store it as is, that's what I do! Or you can put them into a fine blender and make a more powdery version. Your call! . Rule of thumb, one TBSP per cup of water, but adjust to your liking :) . A lot of the mixes in the store have gluten, or some even have dairy! So this is a great way to avoid those and to make a bulk shelf stable mix.

If I was ever on Doomsday Preppers this would be my reason why 😂 I just don’t trust our grid and those who want to take it down. A generator is great but it’s not forever. I would immediately be pulling meat from my freezers, chopping into cubes and pressure canning. We have a propane stove that I could light and can all of this up in a pressure canner. I would put everything with bones into pots and cook, then can that meat in its own broth and can the excess broth. I’ve done this before in a short term power outage, if you remember. Vegetables will not be great frozen but I do feel like they do best in soups and stews. You could do frozen potatoes, meat, and vegetables all together to make really easy shelf stable meals. I prefer to CAN and FREEZE DRY mine before a situation like this happens. Freeze dryer from Harvest Right 🔗 in my bio! We have a medium and it fits all of our preserving needs! Fruit is the easiest! You can can fruit as is or make it into jelly, jam, preserves, lemonade concentrate, or pie fillings. Keeping a small stock of sugar and lemon juice would be a very cheap and good thing to keep on hand. I always have hand tools like a food mill, colanders, cheese cloth, whatever else to use if we didn’t have electricity. I have a ton of water that is canned and potable to use for canning and drinking so I wouldn’t need to worry about that either. I would also suggest doing this! I have a video on it! Lastly, BOOKS. Get hard copy canning books, basic books that aren’t fancy. Canning meat, veg, soup, plain fruit, things like that! I have all of my preserving supplies and books together and would be happy to send you the full list! Comment PRESERVE and I’ll send you the list for my pressure canner, manual preserving tools, and fav canning books ❤️ & lastly, stock up on jars and lids if you can get them on sale or from family and friends! Our favorite long term, heavy duty lids are from @forjarsusa, code MIDWEST10 will save ya!

Heavy on the meal prep… but make it shelf stable 🤎🥫 Mondays look a little different around here knowing that all of this is right here for the week to come. Not rows of plastic containers in the fridge… but jars clinking, shelves stocked, readymade meals prepared ahead of time in jars just sitting, waiting to become the next homemade meal.. Future me is stocked. Future me is calm. Future me isn’t panic-shopping before dinner. Because when the shelves are full of food you made with your own hands? That’s convenience and peace of mind. Meal prep, homestead edition: cook once → eat for months. Nothing fancy. Just simple ingredients, slow days, and a pantry that feels like security. 🌾 This is how I do it and I hope it inspires you to learn how you can do it too! #FromScratchLiving #PantryPrep #ShelfStable #HomesteadKitchen #SlowLiving

Beans are by far my favorite thing to have on the shelf, because they typically take the longest to cook from dry, they’re incredibly cheap and full of nutrients! For pint jars, fill with 1/2 cup dry beans of choice, 1/2 tsp salt and then filtered water to 1 inch headspace. Pressure can for 75 mins (I made a pressure canning tutorial in my last reel!) For quart jars, fill 1 cup dry beans of choice, 1 tsp salt and filtered water to 1 inch headspace. Pressure can for 90 mins. They’re shelf stable for 5+ years like this— but we go through ours so fast! They’re amazing to add to salads, soups, tacos, make refried beans, etc! #canning #canningtutorial #howtocan #homestead #homesteading #homemaker

I’ve switched from making sourdough with white bread flour to making everything from fresh milled whole grain and HERES WHY: Did you know that prior to the invention of the steel roller mill, most people consumed exclusively whole grains? This proved to be a benefit because after the invention of the steel roller mill and shelf stable white flour, the US underwent a health crisis. Staggering rates of pellagra, a vitamin B deficiency disease were linked to a lack of vitamins and minerals in flour. Enrichment, the process of adding back in synthetic vitamins and minerals was a bandaid fix. In fact, one could argue it just introduced new health problems we are dealing with now… our bodies do not absorb synthetic vitamins and minerals in the same ways and in some cases can even cause intolerances. During covid many people started making their own bread, specifically sourdough. This is when I began and still have a special place in my heart for the little starter I made in my kitchen and use to this day. BUT I was baking sourdough weekly with processed white flour that had very little nutritional value. Yes, it was better than store bought bread with 15 ingredients plus preservatives… But when I learned about the differences between white flour and fresh milled whole grain I was astounded: White flour: 4 synthetic B vitamins + small amount of iron. Vs Fresh milled whole grain flour: Potassium, magnesium, vitamins E and K, plentiful in the B vitamins (niacin, riboflavin, thiamine), plentiful in iron, fiber and healthy fat from the wheat germ, zinc, copper and manganese. Plus higher in protein and lower in carbs and lower on the glycemic index than white flour. This blew my mind and effectively ended my era of making white flour sourdough on a weekly basis. Now I bake a delicious combination of whole grain sourdough and whole grain yeasted breads. 🥖🍞🥐 Comment YES and I’ll send you my simple guide to get started with fresh milled flour including my recommendations for mills, grain and more! #freshmilledflour #freshmilled #sourdough #sourdoughbaker #sourdoughbaking

No need for Triclosan, Glycerine, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), or even Fluoride when using this easy, healthy, non-toxic toothpaste. • Rather than just whitening your teeth, what if you could re-strengthen and build your teeth up again from the inside out! • No more super sensitive teeth. • This really simple DIY toothpaste not only helps to whiten your teeth, but remineralises them too! • Strengthening and improving the health of your teeth using only natural ingredients. • To help increase the results brought about by this toothpaste, it’s important to address the diet, as it plays a huge role in the overall health of teeth, as well! • I’ve noticed big differences in the health of our teeth over the past few years since switching to using our own homemade natural toothpaste. • My teeth are whiter than they ever were before, and I’ve noticed less plaque build-up when I’ve gone to my beloved holistic dentist. • Alright! Let’s make it: Ingredients (yileds (4) 1oz jars- adjust as needed. Shelf stable 3mon): *add or leave out anything!* 5 TBS Calcium Powder 2 TBS Bentonite Clay 2 TBS Baking Soda 2 TBS fine-grain Pink Himalayan Sea Salt 6 TBS Fractioned Coconut Oil 1 TBS Xylitol Powder 1 tsp Clove Powder 1 tsp Myrrh Resin Powder 10 drops Magnesium Oil 3 drops Peppermint EO 3 drops Cassia EO 3 drops Orange EO 10 drops black shilajit Instructions: 1) Mix all the powdered ingredients together in a bowl until well combined; Do not use *reactive* utensils if you’re using bentonite clay. 2) Add in the coconut oil one tablespoon at a time until you get your desired consistency, then add in the magnesium oil and mix to combine. 3) Add any optional ingredients, including essential oils or black shilajit. 4) Store in a small glass jar. 5) To use, dip a clean toothbrush into the paste, or scoop some out onto your toothbrush (again, if using bentonite clay in the mix, avoid reactive metals). Brush as normal, swirl the mix around the mouth for 30 seconds to one minute, then spit and rinse. • Read pinned comment below for herbalist notes and where to grab some of these ingredients! - - #herbalist #remineralization #toothpaste #homeremedies naturalhealth

Pressure canned beef is hands down one of our favorite things to pressure can. It’s perfect for freeing up freezer space! (Comment beef to get the full canning tutorial! 🥰) It’s shelf stable, lasts at least a year on the shelf and makes dinner a breeze. One of the coolest things about canning your own meat is you get to choose the quality of meat that goes in your jars. Its texture is like shredded beef and makes the best shredded beef tacos, and enchiladas. A few frequently asked questions: “Can I add other seasonings?” • Yes, you can! Just make sure they don’t have anti-caking agents in them. “Do I have to add liquid?” • Nope! The meat makes its own broth as it processes in the pressure canner. “Is the meat fully cooked when it’s finished in the pressure canner” • Yep! It’s fully cooked and shelf-stable. Comment “beef” for the full recipe and tutorial. . . . . . . . #canning #pressurecanning #preservetheharvest #preservingfood #homecanningadventures #foodstorage #foodstoragetips
