Shutter speed explained. Ever wondered why your footage feels either cinematic or just... off? It’s not just your camera or color grade - it’s motion blur. And the secret behind it is your shutter speed. All give clips in this video are filmed at 24fps, but each one uses a different shutter speed. Same setup, same movement. But the feeling? Completely different. Here’s the breakdown: 1/20 → soft, slight motion blur; 1/50 → matches the 180° rule, feels natural 1/100 → sharper and cleaner, but a bit digital 1/500 → every frame is captured with almost zero motion blur 1/1000 → results in a hyper-realistic, frantic look that can feel “digital” If you want your footage to feel smooth and cinematic, follow the rule of thumb: FPS × 2 = ideal shutter speed At 24fps → go for 1/48 or 1/50 But if you want more blur (for style) or ultra-sharp frames (for sport / action) you’re allowed to break the rules. What matters is knowing the difference and choosing the one that fits your story. Which one would you use? #cinematography #shutterspeed #filmmaking #filmtips #creatorhacks

How shutter speed affects your photos! Shutter speed is the speed at which the shutter of your camera closes. A faster shutter speed (1/200s) results in a small fraction of light taken in by the camera. On the flipside, a slower shutter speed (2-10s) allows more light to enter your lens, making any moving objects appear blurred or in this case create a light trail. Slow shutter speeds are commonly used for long exposures, to create a crisp motion blur effect. Which do you commonly use? Why should I add motion blur to your street photography? 💬: Comment “ PRESET “ and I will send you the link to my Lightroom Presets pack to help you level up your photos with just a few clicks! Slow shutter speed street photography isn’t about blur — it’s about emotion, movement, and storytelling. Freezing everything with a fast shutter often kills the feeling of a moment. By using motion blur intentionally in street photography, you can show energy, rhythm, and life in public spaces. This is how I approach slow shutter street photography to turn ordinary scenes into expressive images.

I never use manual mode when shooting photography. It’s not because I don’t know how to use camera. The reason is because there’s a much better way. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like missing shots because I’m messing with my settings. The way I do things is simple. I give myself one setting to worry about. Shutter speed. Why shutter speed? I’ll explain. When shooting wildlife portraits, I want the creamiest background possible. Which means my aperture stays just about wide open (the f number is slightly higher than the absolute minimum) So aperture is pretty much set it and forget it. (A wide open aperture also helps you under the common low light conditions you find yourself when shooting wildlife photography) Now let’s talk about ISO. I’m lucky enough to shoot on a Sony A74, so I can get away with using slightly higher ISOs. Shooting on the A74 + the denoise feature inside Lightroom almost makes noise a non-factor. Because I’d rather have a noisy image that’s sharp instead of a blurry image with no noise. You can denoise a sharp, noisy image. You can’t un-blur a blurry photo (yet 😂) So what do I do instead of being on full manual? I use auto ISO. This means I set shutter speed and my aperture. And my camera automatically gives me the proper ISO needed to get a properly exposed image. It’s really dead simple. The only question that goes through my head is, “what shutter speed can I use and still get a sharp image?” And the ISO that’s comes with it, comes with it. Because I can work with a high ISO image. I can’t work with a blurry image.

🌐I had been thinking for a long time about recording this mini tutorial explaining the effects of camera shutter settings. The slower the shutter speed, the more noticeable the movement in the scene will be, but blurring is always a risk, so be careful. It's cool to see that as time passes, the white line on the disc becomes more elongated (differently between the inside and outside of the disc, depending on the apparent movement of the subject), coloring a larger portion of the vinyl until it describes a complete trajectory when using a shutter speed of more than one second. To maintain the same exposure in the various photos, I adjusted the aperture and ISO accordingly, but you should already know this if you've seen my videos explaining these photography concepts. #photography #shutterspeed #fotografia #videomaking #corsodifotografia

His reasoning was spot on. While every type of photography requires understanding the exposure triangle, long exposure forces you to slow down and be intentional. With a slower shutter, you have to think through your settings how shutter speed, ISO, and aperture balance before you ever press the shutter. Unlike rapid fire shooting, where you’re capturing multiple frames in seconds, long exposure makes every decision deliberate. And that’s where real understanding is built. #toyphotography #longexposures
