this is a joke, with as much respect as I can muster (for those who make assumptions on things taken out of context without adequate understanding to begin with). my OT didn’t splint my hands for this specific gesture, if it wasnt obvious already. on a serious note- stop telling strangers their diagnosis/treatment plan is “normal”, it really isnt your place to comment on that at all. respectful questions and lighthearted jokes are one thing but dismissing my experience, personal attacks, and harassing me after I have turned off comments are truly vile choices. disclaimer: these splints are to help with a variety of things, are custom made by a medical professional that specializes in splinting for hypermobility, and any short video does not provide full context of my own experience with medical care. It be like that sometimes ... While I wanted some @silverringsplint for the hypermobility problems that are causing havoc in my hands, two OTs measured me and scarily had two very different measurements. I just didn't feel comfortable ordering something so expensive out of pocket to have it not be correct and have to add a whole other frustrating situation to my life. I looked into other options, so many of which would cost the same as silver ring splints or are wire wrapped. Fun fact about me, before my hands got really bad I spent so much time wire wrapping rings, necklaces, and sun catchers. It's a hobby I miss a lot. I have all the tools so I decided to give it a whirl and this thankfully took me less than 20 minutes to figure out. I guess I'll be ordering some stronger materials than this copper and whipping up my own finger splints. Here's hoping they help. If so, down the road I will find someone confident with the silver ring splint measuring system and upgrade. I have a genetic medical condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Among many other symptoms, EDS has made it so that all of the joints in my body are weak and struggle to stay in place. This means that I experience frequent, painful, injuries to all of my joints but my hands and spine are most affected. These little rings work by bracing the joints in my fingers so that they do not dislocate as much. They are technically considered a medical prosthetic that has to get fitted by a licensed hand occupational therapist in order to ensure they do their job right. While I have a full set, I mostly just wear the 4 rings you see here for crochet, and I am careful to keep my hands from doing things that will further aggravate my condition. Before my silver ring splints, I was unable to even hold a pencil due to the constant strain and injuries to my hands. Now you can see all that I do, solely by the power of these wonderful little medical devices. I am incredibly thankful for my splints every day that I wear them and even more grateful that, after years of wearing them, my hands have recovered enough that I do not need to wear them all over and all the time. You can get similar prosthetic splints called Oval-8’s if you think ring splints might help you, but I highly recommend talking to a doctor first if you have chronic hand pain.
