Sleep divorce… have you heard of it? It’s a not-so-great term that has been used to describe couples who sleep in separate beds. It’s the idea that once you move to separate beds, it means you are heading towards the divorce papers. This is a huge myth and harmful in our relationships!  If you haven’t already, be sure to listen to S3E2 of the podcast with @reneereina_  Sleeping in separate beds can offer several benefits to you and your relationship, including: 👉 Improved mood and mental health, which we know is connected to relationship health 👉 Practicing rituals of connection before going to bed - instead of scrolling beside each other at night in bed, you intentionally focus on cuddling on the couch, a deeper kiss goodnight, etc. 👉 Less frustration and irritability with each other over who snores or who doesn’t. Let’s start a conversation about sleeping in separate beds. Do you do it? Have you? Did it help? Tell me in the comments section below. Living Apart Together, or “Apartners” is more common than you might think and it works incredibly well for me and my man. Both of us are on our individual wellness journeys and I love my sleep sanctuary, and he likes to get up at 5am and workout. We are both better versions of ourselves by having our own spaces for our individual routines. If you’re in a similar or unique living arrangement, let us know all about it in the comments. #livingaparttogether #apartners #marriage #sleepdivorce #heathergordonmedia

Sleep divorce: Would you? 😴 Sleep divorce is when couples commit to spending the night in separate rooms to get a better rest. ❓ Are you more like Melissa Mollet and Molette Green, sleeping solo on occasion? Or more of a Chuck Bell, who only switches up the sleep routine when someone is REALLY sick? Maybe you’re a Tony Perkins type, who should consider sleeping alone? Consider these numbers from psychiatrist Dr. Joshua Weiner: 🥱 About 40% of couples say their partner prevents them from getting a restful sleep. 👃 Half of men and 25% of women snore. 💤 A quarter of couples never share a bed. Does that math add up? “Maybe [sleep divorce] is not as extreme as it sounds,” Weiner said. “We know how important sleep is. It affects everything about your health, physically as well as emotionally.” Dr. Weiner shares more info on why sleep divorce might be a good option for some, and breaking stigma, at our #linkinbio. @tonyperkinsfmtv #working4you #sleepdivorce #sleeptips

Sleep divorce can protect rest without divorcing intimacy. The key is being intentional about connection so sleep apart doesn’t turn into living apart. Here are 10 practical, relationship-affirming ways to stay close while prioritizing good sleep: 1. Create a consistent wind-down routine together each night, such as talking, stretching, praying, or watching a short show before separating to sleep. 2. Start the night in the same bed for cuddling, conversation, or intimacy, and then head to separate rooms when it’s time to actually sleep. 3. Go screen-free before your bedtime check-in so your shared time isn’t distracted and your partner feels prioritized. 4. Practice sleep divorce during the workweek for better rest and reunite for sleepovers on weekends to maintain closeness and playfulness. 5. Ask one intentional end-of-day check-in question each night, focusing on what went well, what was stressful, or how you can support each other. 6. Share intentional physical touch before sleep, such as a long hug, back rub, or holding hands, to maintain physical connection. 7. Read, reflect, or pray together as part of your nightly routine to deepen emotional or spiritual intimacy. 8. Exchange a goodnight note or text once you’re in separate rooms to reaffirm connection before sleeping. 9. Create a morning reconnection ritual, such as having coffee together, sharing a hug, or spending a few quiet minutes together before starting the day. 10. Revisit the sleep arrangement regularly through open conversation to ensure it’s still supporting both rest and emotional connection. What was working may not still be working. #drnosebest #earnosethroat #sleepdivorce

When a couple gets married or moves in together, the general expectation is they'll share a bed but a growing number of couples are opting for different sleeping arrangements. A 2023 survey of 2,200 Americans found that one in five couples sleep not just in separate beds but in entirely separate rooms. Whether it's for sleep health or improved mental health, would you opt for sleep divorce? Link in bio to learn more #sleep #sleepdivorce

Sleep Divorce - it’s a thing! The number one hack that transformed my sleep? My partner and I sleep in separate beds. I know. But hear me out… In menopause and thyroid conditions, your sleep can be fragile. So sensitive to noise, light, heat…so many things 😬 Add our loved ones who may snore, act like an electric blankets and have their own loo trips = increased sleep disruption. Separate beds took a bit to get used to on both sides…but…Hello deeper sleep, less cortisol spikes, more energy and better thyroid function the next day. It’s made our relationship even stronger 💗 and I’m sleeping the best in a very long time ✅. If you want the full list of what I changed to fix my sleep - comment SLEEP and I’ll send it to you. #menopausesleep #thyroidproblems #sleeptips #perimenopausesupport #sleepdivorce
