Can you start a horse in a shank? Yes. Cowboys did it for years. But it’s like trying to learn a new language by being dropped into a foreign country with zero help. 🌎
The B1 Philosophy:
🏫 The Snaffle: It’s the classroom. This is where we teach the "A-B-Cs" of pressure and release. It’s a direct, side-to-side conversation where the horse can learn without being overwhelmed.
🗣️ The Shank: It’s total immersion. It’s a "finished" signal. A shank bit multiplies the pressure, meaning the horse needs to already be fluent in the language to understand what you’re asking.
We start in the snaffle to give the horse a fair chance to learn the mechanics. We want them to hunt for the signal in our body so we never have to rely on getting a bigger bit for control.
