Our cows graze a diversity of grasses, legumes, and forbs, using their long, muscular tongues to wrap around plants and pull them. This removes the top growth while leaving the roots intact, which helps stimulate new leaves and shoots. Meanwhile, the cows naturally fertilize the soil along the way.
What might look simple on the surface is actually a remarkable biological process: a cow’s stomach can hold more than 95 liters of food and fluid, and within just one milliliter of that fluid live over one thousand BILLION microorganisms helping break down plant material. 🤯
