Room a Thousand Years Wide by Soundgarden (Oakland, CA 1991) • "Room a Thousand Years Wide" is one of the few Soundgarden songs written without any input from frontman Chris Cornell. Kim Thayil wrote the words and Matt Cameron composed the music. It was also the first Soundgarden song to be recorded and released with bassist Ben Shepherd. Both the original and re-recorded version of the song that is featured on Badmotorfinger include a horn section featuring Scott Granlund (saxophone) and Ernst Long (trumpet). The song is in 6/4 time. Kim Thayil on "Room a Thousand Years Wide". "I really liked the music to the song and it needed words, and since no one else pursued it, I decided to. It's not really about things that have actually happened to me. It's more about experience in general. I've heard a lot of good ideas from people telling me what it's about. They said it's about God, Satan, Jesus, Satan, both, it's religious, it isn't religious ... The truth is, it's just me." • #rockofthe90s #soundgarden #chriscornell #grunge #rockmusic

Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains: The Seattle Music Explosion 💥 🤘 Seattle wasn’t trying to change music. It was isolated, overlooked, and constantly grey—so people stayed inside and made noise. The “Seattle Sound” wasn’t planned; it came from a tight circle of musicians blending punk energy with the heaviness of 70s metal. No industry push, no blueprint—just a scene that accidentally reshaped rock forever. Nirvana kicked the door open. Their quiet-loud dynamic felt explosive but controlled, and Kurt Cobain’s writing—simple on the surface—cut straight through because it was honest. They rejected the polish of hair metal and replaced it with something raw and melodic. Nevermind didn’t just succeed—it flipped the entire industry overnight. Soundgarden pushed the boundaries the furthest. They experimented with odd time signatures, unusual song structures, and heavily down-tuned guitars before it became standard. Chris Cornell’s voice had an almost unreal range, and Kim Thayil’s riffs were dense and unpredictable. They fused metal, psychedelia, and art rock into something darker and more complex. Pearl Jam gave the movement its soul. Their sound leaned more into classic rock structure, making it more accessible without losing depth. Eddie Vedder’s voice and storytelling grounded everything in real human experience. They could fill stadiums while still feeling like they came from the same Seattle basement roots. Alice in Chains sat in the darkest corner. Slower, heavier, and more metal-driven, their music focused on addiction, isolation, and internal struggle. The vocal harmonies between Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell created a haunting, layered sound that felt almost suffocating. They didn’t just write about pain—they made you feel it. #Grunge #AliceInChains #Nirvana #Soundgarden #PearlJam

The Song About Becoming Someone You Never Meant to Be “Fell On Black Days” — Superunknown (Released March 8, 1994) Soundgarden recorded “Fell On Black Days” in 1993 during sessions for Superunknown. Written by Chris Cornell, the song was released as a single in January 1995 and became one of the band’s biggest radio tracks. Cornell described it as an ongoing fear — that moment when life seems fine, things are moving, you’re busy, you’re functioning — and then one day you realize you’re deeply unhappy. Not because of one event. Not because of a single disaster. You simply wake up and feel it. He said it’s the kind of realization that scares you, because there’s nothing specific to blame. Just the awareness that something is wrong. That’s what “fell on black days” means here. The quiet shock of recognizing your own life. — #Soundgarden #FellOnBlackDays #Superunknown #ChrisCornell #90sRock

Grunge is no joke, blew my mind 😂 - - Grunge (originally known as the Seattle Sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the mid-1980s in the U.S. state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and Olympia, and other nearby cities. Grunge fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, and features the distorted electric guitar sound used in both genres, as well as bass guitar, drums, and vocals. #musicmemes #grungemusic #aliceinchains #soundgarden #nirvanafans

RAW POWER & SLUDGE RIFFS: SOUNDGARDEN AT LOLLAPALOOZA ‘92 Kitsap County Fairgrounds - Bremerton, WA 7/22/92 Verano del 92. #soundgarden #chriscornell #lollapalooza #grungeisnotdead #metalhistory

💯 Chris Cornell – “Black Hole Sun” (acústico) en The Howard Stern Show 🎞️ En 2007, Cornell visitó The Howard Stern Show para promocionar su segundo álbum solista Carry On. #ChrisCornell #BlackHoleSun #Soundgarden #Audioslave #Grunge #90sRock #AltRock #Acoustic #LiveMusic #MusicHistory #RockHistory #RockLegends #GrungeVibes #AcousticSession #UnpluggedStyle #RockClassics #SeattleSound #ParaTi #FYP #ViralReels #reelsgrungearg

Released in 1994, this masterpiece by Soundgarden isn’t just music — it’s a dream, a nightmare, and a reality all at once. Written by Chris Cornell in just minutes after mishearing a phrase on TV, the song became one of the most iconic tracks of the grunge era. But here’s the twist… The lyrics don’t tell a clear story. They feel like a surreal dream — full of darkness, confusion, and a desire to escape reality. #BlackHoleSun #Soundgarden #ChrisCornell #GrungeEra #90sRock

When 40,000 Metallica fans watched Soundgarden play a brand new song 🤘 “Room A Thousand Years Wide” — Day On The Green, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum — October 12, 1991 This is four days after Badmotorfinger officially drops (October 8, 1991). They’re on a stadium bill at Day On The Green — Metallica headlining, Queensrÿche and Faith No More also on it. Soundgarden is still technically an opening band here. And they’re throwing a brand-new song with a horn section hook at a California metal crowd at 3pm. “Room A Thousand Years Wide” wasn’t a single. It wasn’t a radio track. It’s in 7/4 time, built around that descending riff, with Ben Shepherd locking into a way dirtier low end than Louder Than Love. Scott Granlund’s sax part on the studio version is already baked into the arrangement by this point, which makes it one of the weirder things to drop into a mostly thrash-leaning festival lineup. Context matters: Nirvana’s Nevermind is three weeks old. Pearl Jam’s Ten is barely a month out. The shift is happening in real time. Soundgarden is the only one of those bands playing a full stadium show that day — and they’re doing odd-time sludge in front of 40,000 metal fans. ———— #Soundgarden #RoomAThousandYearsWide #Badmotorfinger #DayOnTheGreen #1991Rock
