NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik @astrokomrade captured this footage with a GoPro camera on Oct. 20, 2017 during a spacewalk outside the International Space Station. Bresnik reflected on this quiet moment, "Sometimes on a #spacewalkโ€‹, you just have to take a moment to enjoy the beauty of our planet Earth. This Go-Pro footage is from our spacewalk where Joe Acaba and I refurbished the Canadarm2 robotic arm and the Dextre robotic arm extension." Link: https://youtu.be/Wfoy_OvNDvw

During a 2017 spacewalk, NASA astronauts Peggy Whitson and Shane Kimbrough accidentally lost an anti-debris shield, which drifted away and became space junk. The moment was captured on Whitsonโ€™s GoPro, a reminder that in orbit, anything released doesnโ€™t fall away, it stays circling Earth.

EARTH FROM SPACE ๐ŸŒ Part 347 โœจFUN FACT : During a spacewalk outside the ISS, astronauts are never truly โ€œaloneโ€ even if radio contact briefly drops, theyโ€™re protected by multiple backups. Their suit has redundant radios, a safety tether to the station, and a small emergency jetpack called SAFER that can fly them back if they drift away. Losing comms would be scary, but the bigger danger is losing your tether because in orbit, even a tiny push can send you silently drifting into space. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš€ Follow @spacegenerationx for more space content #nasa #space #astronaut #hurricane #spacex

This is raw footage from an EVA (Extravehicular Activity) outside the ISS. โ€‹There is no wind, no sound of nature. Just you, your life support system, and a drop of 400km straight down to Earth. โ€‹Notice the mechanical click of the tether. As part of their preparation, theyโ€™re also completing scuba training - a key step before astronauts begin actual spacewalk training. Astronaut Bruce McCandless II became the first human being to do a spacewalk without a safety tether linked to a spacecraft. In 1984, he floated completely untethered in space with nothing but his Manned Maneuvering Unit keeping him alive. โ€œIt may have been a small step for Neil,โ€ he said, โ€œbut itโ€™s a heck of a big leap for me.โ€

A lone astronaut on a spacewalk films straight down from the International Space Station into the pitch-black night side of Earth, where an unlit ocean or continent stretches endlessly below, framed only by the razor-thin, shadowy curve of the planetโ€™s limb against the void; a taut tether cable crosses the frame, linking the cameraman to the stationโ€™s faintly glowing golden truss, while a distant suited figure floats tiny and silent on an extended line far beneath, suspended in the profound stillness of orbital darkness 400 km above a sleeping world. ๐Ÿ“Space ๐ŸŒWorld News Follow @dailyworld.at for verified global updates.

In 1984, astronaut Dale Gardner did something that still amazes people today. He carried out an untethered spacewalk to capture a drifting satellite called Westar VI. That means he floated freely in space with no rope or cable connecting him to the spacecraft. Using a device known as the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), he literally flew through the vacuum of space to grab a satellite that had gone off course. It became one of NASAโ€™s boldest space rescues ever, and the images from that mission still look like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Look Up. Observe Vastness. @luovhq
