Breast milk intake for exclusively breastfed babies from averagely 624ml/day at 1 month to 735ml/day. It's still averagely 729ml/day at 6 months. Even though the high postpartum levels of prolactin may settle down and the autocrine, demand mechanism now largely controls milk supply, babies still increase their breast milk intake until 3-4months if breastfeeding is going well. Hear me first— This is NOT a post aimed at shaming mothers who are not able to breastfeed. And yes, there are many valid circumstances why a mother would choose or be forced into choosing formula as the next best option after breastfeeding or supplementing with breastmilk. But there is a lie that I think has begun to take root online: that formula and breastfeeding are equal—and that if they are, then there’s no point in breastfeeding at all. That simply isn’t true. Research consistently shows that breastmilk contains living cells, antibodies, and dozens of bioactive factors that formula simply can’t replicate. These components help protect babies against infections (like ear, lung, and gut illnesses) and reduce risks of serious conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis in preemies and even SIDS. Breastfed babies also tend to have lower rates of asthma, obesity, type 2 diabetes and some autoimmune disorders compared with infants who were formula-fed. The nutrients in breastmilk are also optimized for brain growth and development, and large trials have shown associations between exclusive breastfeeding and higher cognitive scores later in childhood. And these benefits aren’t only for babies — breastfeeding is linked to lower risks of breast and ovarian cancer and may even be associated with better long-term cognitive health in mothers themselves. No formula and breastfeeding are not the same… None of this is meant to make anyone feel guilty. I believe mothers deserve accurate, evidence-based information so they can make informed choices that work best for their family. 🤍 #breastfeeding #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingmom #lactationsupport #ibclc

Colostrum harvesting can be a helpful option in certain situations, but it’s not required for successful breastfeeding and not something every pregnant person needs. Milk supply is built through:
🤍 Early, frequent milk removal
🤍 Responsive feeding
🤍 Support in the early postpartum days —not by how much colostrum you collect during pregnancy. Prenatal support can make this feel so much clearer. Having individualized guidance around what’s evidence-based, what’s optional, and what applies to you can take a lot of pressure off during pregnancy. ✨ Many expecting parents have insurance coverage for a prenatal lactation visit- available in office or virtually to help you prep for feeding 💬 Comment “INSURANCE” and we’ll send you the link to verify your benefits and see if you’re covered.

I already know the comment section is about to be busy on this one. For years, many parents were told that leftover breast milk had to be used within 2 hours or it needed to be dumped. And if you’ve ever poured out milk you worked hard to pump… you know that hurts. A new 2026 study on breast milk storage looked at leftover milk from real feedings (not untouched milk in a sterile lab). Researchers found that for healthy, full-term babies, leftover breast milk remained stable for: • Up to 8 hours at room temperature • Up to 24 hours in the refrigerator • With no significant bacterial growth That’s a big difference from the automatic 2-hour rule many of us were taught. Important context: This study is brand new and has not been peer reviewed yet, so official breastfeeding storage guidelines have not changed. And if your baby was premature, immunocompromised, or in the NICU, you should continue following the stricter recommendations. But the data is interesting. And it’s worth paying attention to. Science evolves. When new evidence comes out, we look at it. We don’t ignore it just because the old rule has been around for a long time. So I’m curious… Have you ever dumped breast milk because it passed the 2-hour mark? Tell me in the comments. Let’s talk about it.

There is no magic food or single supplement that replaces the basics. Milk supply responds best to frequent and effective milk removal, whether through nursing or pumping. Proper latch or flange fit helps ensure milk is removed efficiently. Your body also needs rest, hydration, and nourishment to support hormonal balance after birth. Progress comes from gentle, repeated stimulation over time. Follow for evidence-based breastfeeding support. #lowmilksupply #postpartumvalidation #newmomlife #breastfeedingsupport

Breastmilk isn’t just food. It’s alive. As a pediatric RN and IBCLC, one of the most incredible things I teach parents is that breastmilk is a biologically active, living substance — constantly adapting to support your baby. It contains: ✨ Living immune cells that help fight infection ✨ Antibodies tailored to your baby’s environment ✨ Enzymes and hormones that support growth and digestion ✨ Beneficial bacteria that help shape the gut microbiome ✨ Nutrients that shift over time as your baby develops It even responds to illness exposure — adjusting immune support when your baby needs it most. This is why breastmilk isn’t static. It evolves. It communicates. It protects. And while feeding journeys look different for every family, understanding the biology behind human milk can empower you to make informed, confident decisions for your baby. If you’re expecting or navigating feeding right now — preparation and support make all the difference 🤍 I offer prenatal breastfeeding education and feeding consults (often insurance-covered) to help you feel confident from day one. Comment PREP and I’ll send you details.

Breast milk isn’t static. It’s dynamic. Intelligent. Adaptive. From colostrum → transitional → mature milk → toddler milk… Your body continuously recalibrates based on: • Baby’s age • Time of day • Illness exposure • Gestational age at birth This isn’t accidental. It’s evolutionary design. Save this for the days you wonder if your milk is still ‘enough.’ #breastfeeding #lactationscience #postpartumhealth #milkmatters #perinatalcare

Breaking news from your boobs: proteins are not squatting in your milk for weeks. 📰🥛 You’ve probably heard 2–4 weeks (some say 8 🤯) to “clear.” Interesting story. Here’s what real studies show: Dairy 🥛 often undetectable again by 6–8 hrs Peanut 🥜 peaks in 1–2 hrs, usually gone within 24 Egg 🥚 detectable for hours, typically undetectable by 8 Wheat 🌾 fragments show up and clear in a few hrs, not days on end And more! Transfer & clearance is well established & believed to hold the same trend for all dietary proteins. That is that they peak in concentration within a few hours of ingestion, are often undetectable by 6-8 hours, and we give 24 hours for total clearance for any possible outliers (think: differences in hydration, metabolism, etc). 👩🏻‍🔬 The #1 thing that clears your milk is breastmilk removal itself. Dietary protein research shows this timing is true for those who pump or feed on a regular cadence (every few hours) & that not removing milk likely extends that timeline past the 6-8 hrs (hence the 24 hr outlier capture). ⏳ Why this *WEEKS* myth is a menace: 1️⃣ Parents stop breastfeeding because they think milk is “contaminated” 2️⃣ One snack slip turns into panic and weeks of waiting 3️⃣ Folks stay on extreme eliminations way longer than needed 4️⃣ Healing takes time, so normal symptom lag gets blamed on “still in the milk” 5️⃣ Literal gallons of breastmilk being dumped because of "detox" misinformation PLEASE don't dump ANY of your milk The reality is that your milk clears proteins fast. Your baby’s gut & skin need time to heal, which is why improvements can trail behind. That does NOT mean proteins are still there. It means healing is doing its slow, unglamorous work. ❤️‍🩹 This fits what we know about other small molecules like alcohol & flavonoids. In, then out. Not a long-term sublease. ⏳ We’ve walked tens of thousands of families through this. Getting the timeline right changes everything about how you eliminate, reintroduce, & keep your sanity. Comment “TRUTH” and I’ll DM a plain-English research roundup with the real timelines. 🔬 You deserve evidence, not nightmare storylines that raise your blood pressure. 💚

Did you know this, mama? Your breastmilk is made from your blood. When your baby latches, tiny nerve signals travel to your brain. Your brain releases two powerful hormones: 💛 Prolactin – tells your body to MAKE milk 💛 Oxytocin – helps RELEASE milk This is not random. This is biology. This is divine design. The more milk your baby removes… The more your body produces. It’s a beautiful supply & demand system built just for your baby. 🍼 If you’re struggling with: • Low milk supply • Painful latch • C-section recovery & feeding • Cluster feeding confusion • Pumping doubts You don’t have to figure it out alone 🤍 🎓 I offer: ✔️ 1:1 Breastfeeding Consultation ✔️ 5-Day Deep Dive Breastfeeding Workshop Personal guidance. Can adults benefit from human breast milk? 🤔 HMOs in breast milk show promise for improving gut health and fighting harmful bacteria, but the potential for adult benefits is not fully understood. Plus, buying breast milk online comes with serious risks like contamination with harmful pathogens or drugs. Should we do more research to explore?

Breastfeeding was never just about convenience, it was designed to build a child’s immune system, gut, brain, and metabolic health from day one. Human breast milk contains living enzymes, antibodies, stem cells, prebiotics, and immune intelligence that cannot be replicated. It actively seeds the gut microbiome, regulates inflammation, supports brain development, and helps train the immune system to respond, not overreact. Yet today, we’re being pushed toward formulas made with industrial seed oils like canola, synthetic nutrients, and highly processed ingredients. These oils were never meant for developing infants and are linked to gut irritation, oxidative stress, and inflammatory signaling. When the gut is compromised early, it can quietly set the stage for allergies, autoimmune conditions, metabolic issues, and chronic inflammation later in life. This is exactly what pharm wants 👀 This isn’t about mom guilt friends, it’s about empowerment. Many parents are doing the best they can with the information they’re given. But we should be asking harder questions about what we’re feeding the next generation and why ultra-processed options are being normalized so early. If your child has struggled with gut issues, immunity, skin problems, or inflammation, supporting the gut matters. A gentle detox and gut reset can help clear inflammatory burden and restore balance at the root. 👉 Comment RESET to learn how I support gentle gut detox and terrain repair for moms and kids And please share this with someone you know. We need to start sharing information that is going to empower others women and help detach us from big pharma!!

The truth is, your body is incredibly good at prioritizing your breast milk quality, even at the expense of your own nutrient stores. Here is how your diet actually affects your "liquid gold:" The Safety Net: For the most part, your body will pull from your own nutrients to ensure your milk is high-quality for the baby. The "Low" List: If your own levels are low, your milk will also be low in B vitamins (B6, B12), Vitamin A, Vitamin D, DHA, Iodine, and Selenium. Vitamin D Drops: This is exactly why pediatricians recommend Vitamin D drops—so many of us are naturally deficient. The Constants: Things like immune properties, proteins, and carbs stay the same no matter what you eat. Go enjoy that burger, mama! 🤱🏻 In my course, Abby Teaches Breastfeeding, I dive deep into maternal nutrition so you can feel empowered about how you're fueling both yourself and your baby.
