When I saw that video, many people claimed it showed the speed of light — but what it actually demonstrates is the speed of electricity. ⚡ Both are incredibly fast, but they aren’t the same. Light travels at nearly 300,000 km per second in a vacuum. Electricity, however — specifically the electric field moving through a wire — travels at a speed that depends on the conductor material and is usually a fraction of the speed of light. What the experiment really shows is an electrical signal moving through a long cable, turning on lights or triggering sounds one after another. We’re not watching photons racing through space, but rather the effect of an electrical signal traveling almost instantly inside the wire. It’s a powerful visual way to understand how electricity works in the technology we use every single day. #physics #electricity #speedoflight #nasa #explore

What if… a tiny needle hit Earth at the speed of light? Sounds harmless, right? It’s just a needle. But at that speed— 💥 Nothing is “small” anymore. When something moves close to the speed of light, its energy becomes enormous. That tiny needle… would carry more energy than powerful explosions we’ve ever created. The moment it hits— 👉 Air would instantly ignite 👉 A massive explosion would occur 👉 Shockwaves would spread across the surface Not because of its size— But because of its speed. In physics… ⚡ Speed can turn something tiny into something catastrophic. So the real question is— If something this small can cause so much damage… what happens when the Universe moves at extreme speeds? 🌌 #Physics #Space #Universe #Science #SpeedOfLight

Ever wondered what speed of light (=3 x 10⁸) actually looks like? 💡 Brian Haidet just broke the speed limit—visually. Using a custom-built 2 billion FPS camera, we’re finally seeing photons in "slow motion." 🎞️ At this frame rate, light only travels about 15cm per frame. It’s not just a video; it’s a masterclass in time-correlated single-photon counting. ⚛️ The universe’s maximum velocity, caught in the act. 🌌 #Physics #SpeedOfLight #Optics #Quantum #AlphaPhoenix

What Happens If You Never Stop Accelerating? 🚀 Imagine accelerating nonstop… forever. No slowing down. No stopping. Just constant acceleration. At first, nothing feels unusual. But as speed increases, physics starts changing everything. If you never stopped accelerating: • Your body would feel constant force (like gravity) • Air resistance would become deadly • At extreme speeds, relativity begins to matter • Time would slow down compared to Earth • Approaching the speed of light changes reality itself According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, nothing with mass can reach the speed of light — it would require infinite energy. So what actually happens first? Does your body survive? Does time change for you? In this video, we break down the real science behind infinite acceleration and what it would mean for the human body. If you could travel faster than light, you might imagine “catching up” with old light from Earth and seeing dinosaurs again — but according to modern physics, objects with mass cannot travel faster than light, so this stays in the realm of speculation, not something we know how to do. The deeper idea is still beautiful: when we look far into space, we already look back in time because light takes time to travel. So in principle, distant observers could see Earth’s ancient past — but for us to race outward and watch dinosaurs ourselves would require physics beyond what relativity allows. The Speed of Light Compared to Sound 🤯#space #speedoflight Have you ever wondered how fast light really travels compared to sound? Sound moves through air at about 343 meters per second, which is why we hear thunder a few seconds after seeing lightning. But light is incredibly faster, traveling at about 299,792,458 meters per second. This simulation shows the dramatic difference between the speed of sound and the speed of light, helping us understand just how extreme the universe really is. Follow Know Your Universe for more fascinating facts about space, physics, planets, and the cosmos. Travelling at the speed of sound means moving at about 343 meters per second at sea level, which is roughly 1,235 km/h. This is known as Mach 1 and depends on air temperature and altitude. When an aircraft like the Concorde exceeded this speed, it created a sonic boom because it was moving faster than the pressure waves it generated in the air. Supersonic travel is physically achievable with current technology because it involves moving through a medium like air, and the speed limit is based on how fast pressure waves travel through that medium. The speed of light, about 299,792 kilometers per second in a vacuum, is completely different. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, nothing with mass can reach or exceed this speed because it would require infinite energy. Light does not need a medium to travel and represents the ultimate speed limit of the universe. To compare, light is nearly 874,000 times faster than the speed of sound in air. While humans have engineered vehicles to exceed the speed of sound, travelling at the speed of light remains physically impossible with our current understanding of physics. .

Light is not just fast — it is the universe’s speed limit and its measuring stick. ⚡ Here’s what truly mind-bending about the speed of light: 1️⃣ Nothing outruns it According to relativity, c \approx 299{,}792{,}458 m/s is the fastest possible speed. No matter how powerful your engine, no matter how advanced your tech — you can never push past it. 2️⃣ Time itself bends As you approach light speed, time dilates — meaning clocks tick slower for you than for someone at rest. This isn’t sci-fi: particle accelerators observe muons living longer simply because they move faster. 3️⃣ Space and time are one fabric Einstein showed that light doesn’t just travel through space — it weaves space and time together. Light’s constancy forces the universe to adjust the rhythm of time and the measure of distance. 4️⃣ Cosmic GPS must correct for relativity Every GPS satellite accounts for time dilation — if we didn’t correct for relativity, your phone could be off by kilometers every day. 5️⃣ Light sets the cosmic rulebook Causality — the order of events — is only preserved because of light’s speed limit. Faster than light communication would break cause and effect. 🔍 Fact that stops the mind: If you could travel at 99.999% of light speed, your own biological clock would slow so much that years could pass outside while you barely age — a real form of forward time travel. ✨ Alchemical layer: Light isn’t just motion — it is the thread of being. In physics, the invariant speed of light is what binds energy, mass, space, and time into a coherent whole. Without it, there’s no measure. No sequence. No ordered reality. The universe doesn’t just have light. Light structures reality. Posted @withregram • @thecosmological The Alcubierre drive is a theoretical concept of a warp drive that could allow a spacecraft to travel faster than light by manipulating the space-time around it. The idea was proposed by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994, based on a solution of Einstein's field equations in general relativity. The basic idea is that the spacecraft would create a bubble of flat space-time around it, while contracting the space-time in front of it and expanding the space-time behind it. This would create a wave that would carry the spacecraft along with it, without violating the speed limit of light in the local space-time. However, the Alcubierre drive faces many challenges and limitations, such as the requirement of negative energy density or exotic matter, the possibility of time travel paradoxes, the difficulty of controlling the warp bubble, and the lack of a quantum theory of gravity. Therefore, the Alcubierre drive remains a speculative and controversial idea that has not been proven or disproven by any experiment or observation.
