The Truth About Heavy Squats ⚠️! Heavy weight with 90 deg is Exponentially more therapeutic & effective than lighter weight with full range of motion. Best shoes @vivobarefoot code DRJOEL20. 90 degree eccentric isometrics literally healed & fixed my body that got destroyed from years of deep ass-to-grass (ATG) squats. Those deep squats were often done with 135-185 lbs occasionally 225+. Sometimes I would just do light goblet squats with 50 lb dumbbell. But no matter how light or low volume I went, deep ATG squats destroyed my hips, low back, knees, & more just as it has done to countless of lifters over the years. In fact deep squats & “full range of motion” are responsible for more injuries in strength training than any other known training method or modality. I can squat 500 lbs with 90 deg & have zero negative repercussions. It only feels therapeutic & brings healing to my body while maximizing strength & muscle growth. In contrast doing even just 135 lbs for several sets of deep full range of motion wrecks my body 10x more so than 500 lb 90 deg. Read more in my 600 pg book MOVEMENT REDEFINED link in bio. Oh and I don’t use a belt, lifting shoes, knee wraps, or any other lifting accessories but instead go completely raw as should you. I also never stretch or foam roll, or do mobility drills or any other soft tissue work. That’s because 90 degree eccentric isometrics provide all the therapeutic stimulus my body needs. At nearly 40 years old this is the strongest, healthiest, most muscular, and pain free I’ve ever been. Tens of thousands of folks around the world are reporting similar findings once they switch to 90 deg eccentric isometrics. The methods are working and God gets all the glory!! We love these practical tips for working up to a good Deep Squat from Wendy at @reclaim.movement, a L1 MCT 💚🍃 ・・・ ‘How can I work up to this?’ Firstly, yay! Wanting to try is great as you’ve obviously convinced yourself it’s a good thing to do which is brilliant and your body will thank you later! 🙌🏽 Secondly, I’m so pleased you can see that to get to a more comfortable Deep Squat (and I am working on mine daily), you need to put in practise and not just go straight at the movement and expect it to happen with ease (well it does for some lucky people!). So - this reel shows a few ways to help yourself journey towards the increased mobility that allows you to squat, but also the increased mobility you gain from just trying to squat which also helps you move better in many other natural movements. Consistent practise reaps rewards (as we all know), so to make it easier on yourself, and not have to ‘remember’ to add in daily squats (my menopause brain struggles with remembering anything extra at the moment!), instead squat when you’re doing a daily task anyway. Mine are the cat litter tray, clothes washing machine, and avoiding using the hand held hoover and instead getting down to floor level with a dustpan and brush. Linking a chosen movement to squatting really helps me - I hope it’ll help you too! We practise squatting in a lot of my classes, but most people use a rolled up hand towel at first for their heels, or a half foam dome (or eco cork equivalent - @thefootcolllective do an amazing one I’m saving up for!). Having the dome near the washing machine also acts as a prompt to remind you to try that squat! Let me know how you go! I’d love to hear.
