HUBaddies, it’s time to be a better ally to our trans community.
🏳️⚧️ Remember that trans and non-binary people exist at all stages of life.
🏳️⚧️ Ask a person what pronouns they use, and use inclusive and gender-neutral terms and titles. Instead of addressing people as “guys,” refer to them as “folks, friends, or guests.” Remember, y’all means all. 🤠
🏳️⚧️ Avoid microaggressions like “It’s so cool to have a trans friend,” or “I never would have guessed you are trans/non-binary.” These types of comments can dehumanize a trans person and reduce their identity to how well they conform to cisgender beauty standards.
🏳️⚧️ Learn more about the trans and non-binary experience. Explore books, movies, and podcasts by and featuring trans people to avoid putting the emotional burden on one person in your life to speak for an entire community.
🏳️⚧️ Bring inclusive topics to your workplace! Advocate for things such as health care offerings and policies that include transgender health care and mental health services, private or gender-neutral restrooms, and nondiscrimination policies that offer explicit protection for trans people. We all need to do our part in ensuring that spaces are welcoming, affirming, and safe.
🏳️⚧️ Help us change the world by supporting a trans-led or focused organization in your area. Nowadays, many spaces and services that we use and take for granted every day are still inaccessible or unsafe for trans folks. You can make a difference right where you live by working with others to make your community a safer place for trans people - get started at hrc.im/volunteer.

GEWe’re proud and deeply grateful to the moms, dads, grandparents, and medical providers of trans youth who answered the call and stood with us at HHS last week.
One mom, Katie, shared her journey toward acceptance and affirmation of her trans son — a journey that gave him the space to flourish. Gender-affirming care saved his life. We will not stop fighting until every trans young person can access the healthcare they need to live, grow, and thrive.
