🥑 🍌 Starting solids can be confusing for a lot of parents! Baby-led weaning? Purées? How do you start? When is it time to move to the next texture? This is the timeline I followed with my baby, as a pediatric feeding therapist. We took a combination approach of mashed foods with hard munchables (5 inch sticks of unbreakable (by baby) foods meant for mouth exploration ONLY, not eating) and started introducing soft smashable sticks of food after about 1 month of mashed foods. We focused on self-feeding with responsive co-feeding (this means responding to your babies cues as you are helping them with feeding - are they opening their mouth? Are they leaning forward? Are they communicating they want more? Are they turning away? Blocking their mouth? Becoming upset?). ✨Remember, each baby follows their own timeline, and what’s right one baby/family isn’t always what’s right for another. In general, it’s recommended to start solids around 6 months of age, and they should be chewing at least some foods (meltable solids, soft solids) by 10 months of age (reflexes that help babies learn to eat chewable foods typically disappear around this time). Babies should be transitioned to soft table foods around 12 months in order to begin receiving the majority of their calories from solid foods versus breast milk or formula. ⭐️ Check out my previous reels and blogs (link in bio) to learn how to know when your baby is ready to start solids, and activities you can do with your 3-6 month old to get them ready to start solids! 🌟 Don’t forget to follow for more feeding tips from a licensed feeding therapist, SLP, and toddler mom Disclaimer: This post is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Save this — you’ll want to make it again 🤍 This soft spinach omelette is one of my go-to BLW meals — simple, nutritious, and perfect for little hands. ✔️ easy to hold ✔️ soft texture ✔️ great for self-feeding Ingredients: • 1 egg • 1 frozen spinach cube • 1 tbsp water • 2 tsp cottage cheese How to make: Lightly grease a pan with oil (I used olive oil) Cook spinach with water until soft Add egg + cottage cheese Mix until smooth Cook on low–medium heat until set Flip and cook 1 more minute Cut into strips and serve ✔️ 6+ months (if all ingredients are already introduced separately) ⚠️ Always introduce ingredients separately before combining them in recipes. The suggested age does not mean all ingredients are suitable from that age if they haven’t been introduced individually. Make sure all allergens are already safely introduced.#blwbaby #babyledweaning #babyfoodideas #blwrecipes #startingsolids

Most parents are told to start solids at 6 months, but almost no one explains why. Around this age, the iron stores babies are born with can begin to dip while nutritional needs start to rise. This is when some of the biggest nutrient gaps can begin to appear, especially these 4: iron, zinc, healthy fats, and choline. That’s why first foods matter so much. Choosing nutrient-dense foods can help support growth, brain development, and this important stage of rapid change. When you understand the reason behind the timing, feeding starts to make a lot more sense. Comment IRON and I’ll send you the first foods I recommend and my Baby’s First Foods Guide -The baby feeding guide I wish I had as a first time mom, packed with exactly what to feed, when to feed it, nutrient dense recipes, age by age schedules, allergy guidance, sleep support, and the why behind it all. #startingsolids #firstfoods #babyfeeding #babyledweaning #momtips

Delaying solids too long can actually work against your baby… 👀 And I know that might feel confusing. Because NO — I do not recommend starting before ~6 months or before your baby is developmentally ready. BUT… waiting past that window can come with downsides ⬇️ • Nutritional gaps (hello, iron needs 👶) • Missed opportunities for oral motor skill development • Delayed exposure to textures + allergens • Increased feeding challenges later on There’s a sweet spot — and it’s based on your baby, not just a date on the calendar. Starting solids isn’t about rushing… but it’s also not about waiting out of fear 🤍 ✨ Follow your baby’s cues ✨ Look for readiness signs ✨ And trust that you can do this Save this for later + share with a mama who needs to hear this 💛 #startingsolids #babyledweaning #babyfeeding #momlife #firsttimemom

8-Month-Old Lunch: The Ultimate Veggie-Packed Steamed Balls! 🥦✨ As a Dietitian, I love ‘steaming’ because it retains the maximum vitamins compared to boiling. Today’s colorful plate: ✅ Sooji & Veggie Balls: A base of Sooji (Semolina) packed with finely grated Carrot, Broccoli, and Spinach. High in iron and fiber! 🌿 ✅ Steamed Carrot: Great for teething and eye health. 🥕 ✅ Steamed Apple: A gentle, easy-to-digest source of Vitamin C to help absorb the iron from the spinach. 🍎 💡 Always pair iron-rich greens (like spinach) with a Vitamin C source (like apple) to boost absorption! #dietitianmom #blw #startingsolids #8monthsold #recipes @dietsbyshriya_ 🦋

👶 What I’m showing here are average appetite patterns for babies 6–12 months, based on pediatric nutrition guidance. These are meant as helpful references, not expectations. Use this as a baseline, not a strict rule. Every baby is different, and their appetite can change day to day. Growth spurts, teething, sleep changes, mood - all of these can affect how much your little one wants to eat on any given day. ‼️ Do NOT force-feed. Babies have instinctive hunger and fullness cues — it’s how they self-regulate. Forcing food can lead to: • food aversions 🤢 • negative mealtime associations 🍽️ • power struggles around eating ⚔️ Instead, try: ✔ offering food calmly ✔ responding to cues ✔ letting your baby explore and self-feed when age-appropriate Your baby’s interest in eating is just as important as the amount they eat. 📌 Official Sources That Support These Portions & Meal Frequencies (Click to verify guidelines and portion suggestions) 🔗 CDC – How Much & How Often to Feed Solids (ages 6 mo+) https://www.cdc.gov/infant-toddler-nutrition/foods-and-drinks/how-much-and-how-often-to-feed.html 🔗 WHO – Complementary Feeding Recommendations (meals by age) https://www.who.int/health-topics/complementary-feeding 🔗 UNICEF – Feeding Your Baby 6–12 Months https://www.unicef.org/parenting/food-nutrition/feeding-your-baby-6-12-months 🔗 Nationwide Children’s Hospital – First Year Feeding Guide https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/conditions/health-library/feeding-guide-for-the-first-year #IndianMom #StartingSolids #BabyLedWeaningIndia #BabyFoodIndia #IndianParenting

Starting solids with baby? here’s a hack every parent should know🫧 Wiping baby down after meals can be stressful (for everyone😅) Place a small suction bowl of warm water (soap optional) on the high chair after meals for baby. This will not only be a fun sensory activity, but it will help to soften the mess on baby’s hands for a much easier clean up. #startingsolids #babyledweaning #blw #6monthsold #newbaby

Wondering when to start solid foods for your baby? 🍽️👶 Most babies are ready around 6 months — not based on age alone, but on developmental signs. Look for these cues: ✔️ Sitting with minimal support ✔️ Good head and neck control ✔️ Showing interest in food ✔️ Loss of the tongue-thrust reflex Starting too early can affect digestion. Starting too late can impact skill development. Timing matters. If you're not sure whether your baby is ready, drop a comment below or send a message — I’m happy to help guide you. 💛 Ctto: @jet #startingsolids #BabyNutrition #momlife #firstfoods #babydevelopment
