SAColby and I hit Skid Row today. @theanimalpad provided 100 Thanksgiving meals for the dogs out here, and with @joey.tuccio @kaylarescuesdogs , and @startswithonetoday we walked tent to tent handing out food, leashes, blankets, anything we could carry. We spent hours talking with owners, encouraging spay and neuter, doing whatever we could to make even the smallest difference.
But what hit the hardest wasn’t just the need,,it was the reality that dogs are currency on Skid Row. Every tent a breeding ground. Every sidewalk corner a marketplace. Dogs being traded, sold, passed around like items instead of lives.
We watched a tiny malinois mix puppy get handed off three times in minutes. Three times. And by some miracle, we were able to step in and take him out of there. We also got a little scruffy white baby to safety and into a foster tonight. Two souls who get a new start.
But the wins don’t erase the heartbreak. There was a pittie we’ll be thinking about for a long time..sweet, scared, and shut down. We offered help, resources, anything… but the owner refused.
Watching how harshly she was treated, knowing we couldn’t change the outcome, knowing she’d stay there…that broke something in us. We won’t forget about her and we will continue to try.
People need to know this: dogs are the form of currency on Skid Row. They’re traded for survival, for money, for power. This isn’t neglect by accident…it’s a system. A cycle. And it’s happening in plain sight.
We left with two dogs today… and left pieces of our hearts with the ones we couldn’t take. Please, if you’ve ever wondered whether rescue work matters…it does. And these dogs desperately need all of us to care.

That means time flies when your life depends on it. Add to that - being 9yrs old, vision impaired with lacerations to your neck - and time get shorter.
But he was still a happy little hippo and with all the odds stacked against him HE MADE IT OUT!

🚨SUSIE HAS JUST HOURS LEFT TO BE RESCUED- BY TOMORROW- TUES 9/16 EOD‼️
This young sweet mom is holding out hope her life will be saved, but time is running out. There’s no sugar coating this - Susie has lived thru a terrible situation. This 3 yr old girl was found when LAPD were called to an encampment on 07/05. Needless to say, this was a chaotic scene - hardly a safe place for Susie, who was found with several puppies. People at the encampment told officers that Susie had bitten someone, but that person was nowhere to be found, so no further details could be acquired. Susie was very stressed at the scene. She was brought into the shelter with 3 (what we assume were her) puppies. A Humane (neglect) case was brought against the owner. A few days later, the owner surrendered 4 more puppies, Susie, and the 3 puppies she came in with. The puppies were soon adopted.
Poor Susie was blamed for a bite that may or may not have happened. She served a quarantine, and after 3 weeks, she was able to get out for her 1st outing in playgroup. She was initially timid, but warmed up quickly in the yard, approaching handlers for attention, & was gentle/dainty & social with other dogs. She has especially opened up with the help of other dogs (large and small)! And with her human friends, she has started to seek affection, walks well on leash & takes treats gently.
Despite the strides she’s made, we’re upset to report that Susie is now EUTH ALERTED and been made RESCUE ONLY (not adoptable to the public) due to the dubious claims made about her at the encampment where she was found. Susie has endured so much, and we can’t stand the idea of her life ending here!

ELWhat a day!
I picked up my new foster Chester rescued from the streets of skidrow from @startswithonetoday and met up with @joey.tuccio and who do we run into none other than @jcchasezofficial because Chester went right up to him (he’s quite intuitive).
My first full day with my amazing pint size frenchie. He is so incredibly sweet…I mean he literally is a love bug. He will be your shadow, he looks at you like you’re the only thing that matters in the world.
He does so well on leash. We did 3 walks today and he LOVES walks. He also loves to say hi to everyone he meets and he loves to say hi to every dog too.
He’s spunky. He and our pup @hakuna_ma_nala_pittypup get along so incredibly well. They just play and play and he’s got these cute little bunny hops you have to see.
I also gave him a spa day. Not the biggest fan but he does well with them. He doesn’t chew on anything. He likes toys & shoes but prefers to cuddle up with you. He also likes to take mini naps.
He’s not ready yet for adoption, but if you’re interested please reach out to the rescue. He is getting absolutely spoiled and loved so whoever adopts him must have experience with this breed and be able to care for them long term ❤️
