Let’s be honest: nobody signs up for this job because they love writing reports. We sign up for the saves and the “high-speed” work.
But here is a truth I’ve learned over 25 years:
Justice doesn’t happen when the handcuffs go on. It happens on these pages.
If it isn’t written down, it didn’t happen. A poor report can let a guilty person walk free, and a great one ensures the work you did on the street actually matters in the courtroom.
To the new Troopers: Don’t just do the exciting stuff well. Do the “boring” stuff with excellence.
The pen is often mightier than the tools on our belt.
