“When I look at a cityscape at night, I see lives, thousands of them, each one glowing behind a window, each one a heartbeat, a secret, a fleeting moment that will never repeat. That’s where my storytelling begins: not with objects or places, but with feelings:
1) My storytelling always begins with mood. I build a mood board not around locations, but around emotions: warmth, solitude, connection, distance.
Neuroscientists have demonstrated that our brains process emotional images more quickly than neutral ones; emotion is literally the bridge between perception and memory (Kensinger & Schacter, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2008). Then I chase that feeling in real life, sometimes in a city that never sleeps, sometimes in a silent field at sunrise.
2) Inspiration usually finds me in contrasts: light and dark, motion and stillness, chaos and peace.
When I encounter a scene, like a building breathing with the rhythm of human life, I focus on these opposing forces and how they coexist. Research refers to this phenomenon as “affective contrast,” where opposites intensify the emotional impact of an image (Palmer & Schloss, PNAS, 2010).
3) Once I find that tension, the story forms naturally. The final concept isn’t about perfection; it’s about honesty.
If the photo or clip makes you feel something, even something small, then it’s complete. Perfection can make an image beautiful, but authenticity makes it human. Studies show that viewers engage longer with visuals that reveal subtle irregularities or traces of real life, because the brain associates them with sincerity and truth (Reber et al., Psychological Science, 2004).
So, I let the spontaneity stay, the flicker of a light, the blur of motion, the shadow in the corner. These are the visual “heartbeat” of a moment.

STPaddling through the Mentawai Islands is a journey through a distant Indonesian paradise, situated some 150 kilometers off the west coast of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean. During a trip paddling across the glass-smooth, turquoise water and 70 islands comprising this tropical paradise, paddlers are enveloped in an ancient lush jungle and colourful reefs that are alive with tropical fish and tropical sunsets. The journey is a deep reset with only the sounds of the Indian Ocean's rhythmic pulse and the trade winds rustling through the palm fronds to break the silence.

JVDuring the entire sequence of volcanic events at Svartsengi in Iceland, we have never had to wait as long as we are now for the next event to begin. Since the April eruption this year, the most predictable volcano in the world seems to have become unpredictable again (sort of). The long wait this time is likely due to the slowdown in magma flowing into the system. When will the 10th eruption begin? It could start right now, in two months or maybe never. All we can do is wait & be surprised.
📷 During the 5th Svartsengi eruption, I captured this unique, almost hypnotic lava flow. It turns out this was an even more fleeting moment than usual because since then, the area where I recorded this has been buried multiple times over by new lava. It’s wild to think how much & how fast this area has been terraformed in these past 2 years. If you would have asked me, or asked anyone really, what they would have expected to happen there I don’t think anyone would’ve guessed we would already be counting down to a 10th eruption in 2 years time. #iceland

My 50th country—Slovenia! 🇸🇮✨
I explored two must-see spots: Lake Bled and Ljubljana.
The weather wasn’t perfect, but Lake Bled in the rain felt so dreamy and magical—it was beautiful in its own way😳🤍
Personally, I loved the pink Franciscan Church in Ljubljana’s main square, the lively riverside market nearby, and visiting Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views over the city—it was such a highlight🎀
I bet the scenery would look completely different in summer…
I’d love to come back someday🥹🤍

LUNorth Cascades in Washington is one of the most incredible National Parks in the US.🏔
It has over 400 miles of trails, more glaciers than anywhere else in the lower forty-eight, and some of the coolest hikes I’ve ever done.
It feels a lot like being in the Alps. Definitely worth checking out if you’re planning a trip to the PNW this summer.
