GRGreenpeace kayaktivists have been disrupting a deep sea mining exploration test for 24 hours!
The Metals Company @metals.co thought they could get away with it but the Arctic Sunrise has followed them to the testing site in the Pacific Ocean. Kayaktivists have put themselves between the mining research ship’s machinery and the ocean.

Norway has, as the first country in the world, opened up for deep sea mining.
The Arctic and its creatures are already suffering enough from the consequences of global warming, plastic pollution, shipping traffic and overfishing. And here Norway now wants to exploit the bottom of the deep sea. Experts warn that this new industry can cause irreversible damage to nature and the climate.
We have to protect the unique and untouched life in the Arctic.

GRLast week, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a plan to fast-track deep sea mining in American and international waters , prioritizing industry profits over marine protection. His administration is pushing to bypass international safeguards and launch extraction projects in fragile ecosystems we barely understand.
❌👉 It’s a dangerous precedent that could open the floodgates for global exploitation of the ocean floor.
What about Belgium ?
Our government is supporting companies like DEME, which is lobbying for the same thing : the rapid approval of mining operations in the Pacific Ocean, even though the long-term environmental impacts remain unknown.
But we still have time to stop this!
With the 30th session of the International Seabed Authority happening this year, we still have a critical opportunity to stop this emerging industry and protect our oceans. ✊
🖊️ Sign the petition in our bio to urge Belgium to withdraw its support for deep sea mining. Together, we can prevent a global ecological disaster.

GR🐙 A nightmare: this is what it might look like for deep sea creatures, like the ghost octopus, the yeti crab and other colorful jellyfishes will face if deep sea mining starts. We do not want to see that happen.
✊ The good news is: it’s not too late. Right now, world leaders are discussing whether to allow deep sea mining to start at the International Seabed Authority meeting, in Jamaica.
🌊 As governments just agreed on a Global Ocean Treaty, this meeting is the opportunity for them to show that they are serious about ocean protection. We need you to help us make some noise and push them to stop deep sea mining !
