IMPORTANT NOTICE ⚠️ To help keep our horses safe and well, we are putting some temporary additional biosecurity measures in place at RFEC and kindly ask for everyone’s cooperation over the next few weeks. Strangles is one of the most common infectious diseases in horses worldwide and can affect any horse. While there are currently no cases on site, we have been made aware of cases not too far from us, so these measures are being introduced purely as a precaution ❤️‍🩹 With immediate effect, please help us by following the guidelines below: 1. Disinfect boots on arrival using the buckets provided outside the tack room and feed room. 2. No personal equipment to be used, including saddle pads/numnahs, fly veils, grooming kits and head collars. 3. If you visit other yards, please change coats and gloves and disinfect hats, body protectors and other equipment before coming onto the yard. 4. Please avoid touching any horses unless you are riding them. These are simple, temporary measures put in place to protect the health and wellbeing of our horses. So before going to sleep I wanted to update you all on the four starved kill pen mares. Pearl, Onyx, Nutmeg and this is Cinnamon. She has a body score of two and a half, she’s pregnant, she has strangles. And she’s beautiful. We are going to nurse her and her friends back to health and then set them free. That’s what we do. I apologize for the post earlier in the week but I am human and it’s just been too much lately. I referred to the people, rescues, and organizations who have done us dirty over the past few years. But now we want to move on and get back to what we do best. Rescuing and healing wild horses from terrible situations. Because we shouldn’t have to go through all this just to do this work in this world. It’s hard enough and emotionally draining enough without all the noise. So I am sorry if we let you down and we stand by what we said as it’s our first hand experience not gossip or malice, it’s just what happened to us. But it’s nothing compared to what happened to these four mares and their unborn babies. And sometimes seeing this stuff day in and day out affects you and makes you angry. But that’s not what this is about and I am back to the horses and only the horses and getting them well and healthy. I will do more updates on these four and they are all looking better and are on the mend. We have strict quarantine protocols and none of them are contagious after having been through a good quarantine for over a month they are through the worst of it. We love them and they deserve nothing but the best care, doctoring, medicine and all the love in the world so that they soon know humans can be decent and kind and truly that is all we ask of others too. There is so much infighting and hate and nastiness in horse rescue and we were just sick of it but also don’t want to become a part of it. So tomorrow we are going into BLM cañon city to pick up two old boys from Sand wash basin and bring them home to sanctuary. Let’s move on and get back to the horses and the love. 📢 Hall Farm strangles update: (link in bio)    For the past five months, our incredible team has been working tirelessly to manage and contain a strangles outbreak that halted rehoming and closed the farm to visitors.    From endoscopy and lab testing to specialist treatments like reverse thermosetting gel, our vets and grooms have pulled out all the stops to get our horses back to full health.  ✅ Almost all are now strangles-free and vaccinated  🏠 Rehoming is back up and running  🐎 13 horses and ponies are ready for their forever homes!  It’s been a long haul and we couldn’t be more thankful for your patience and support 💙    Make sure to stay tuned for an update on Hall Farm reopening to the public very soon! 👀🐴    👉 Read the full update and hear from our Director of UK, Malcolm Morley, in our latest blog by going to the link in our bio.
