Hear me out… 🙏🏻 I was always guilty of overpulling; hard lockouts, poor position off the floor and a back that was doing a large amount of the work. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if your goal is to deadlift the most weight possible a more balance approach is what’s needed. I’m not saying the pull isn’t an important part. I’m not saying pushing more is going to fix your problems all your problems. But I think for a vast majority of people getting into deadlifting more seriously this can be a good area to put their focus. It’s a simple idea: If the pulling comes naturally, put the focus into the pushing. This is something I think doing sumo for years really helped to drill into me but when it came to transferring that to conventional deadlift, paused deadlifts were such a valuable tool. Think about the cues, “make the bar float” or “push the floor away” to try and get more quads involved and build a more powerful deadlift. If you’re having trouble with your deadlift, DM me “DEADLIFT” and let’s have a chat about how you can get things moving forward again. __ #powerlifting #gymtips #deadlift #deadliftguide #technique #lifting #beginnerpowerlifter #gains #strengthcoach #strength

Clothing @greatnesswins code JOEL25. Tools @repfitnessequipment @kensuifitness . 10 Facts on Lifting Accessories. 1.Lifting accessories like lifting belts, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, & any other tool are simply crutches that provide artificial support. Use sparingly! 2.They allow you to lift more weight than what your body should handle. 3. If you need lifting accessories to lift a load or perform an exercise then you’re either too weak for that load or need to work on technique or both. 4. Proper lifting form should minimize the need for lifting accessories as optimal biomechanics eliminates energy leaks that lifting accessories are often used as a Band-Aid to cover up weaknesses & imbalances. That’s why we use 90 deg EI method. 5. If you have to wear a lifting belt for heavy squats, deadlifts, & axial loaded movements, your spine is fragile. That means you may not necessarily injure it during lifting but when you don’t have the belt on (daily living), it’s more prone to injury. 6. Lifting belts give false security as it’s still very possible to injure your spine while wearing it. 7. Lifting straps & other accessories should only be used when absolutely necessary such as during a PR (even then questionable). 8. For powerlifters training for competition, periodically wearing lifting accessories to boost lifting PR’s is warranted but don’t become dependent on or abuse them. 9. Weightlifting shoes are a very unnatural lifting accessory. Ironically they’re usually worn by folks who claim deep full ROM squats are most natural way to squat. Barefoot or barefoot shoes is the grand equalizer. 10. I’ve been personal training 23 years including professional athletes with very heavy loads. We’ve never once worn any lifting accessories. We have no injuries in the weight room & inordinately few on the athletic field. God gets all the glory! More in my FREE ebook & Podcast on YouTube & Spotify. #deadlift #deadlifts

Why do I love this movement so much? Because this one exercise hits two of the most overlooked — but MOST important — areas for performance and injury reduction: Your adductors + your deep core. Your adductors stabilize the knee, control change of direction, and massively reduce ACL injury risk. Most athletes don’t train them directly… and it shows. The Copenhagen side plank forces you to: 1. Build serious adductor strength for cutting, planting, and lateral movement 2. Strengthen your obliques and deep core 3. Improve hip stability and control 4.Connect your hips + trunk so you move as one unit And listen — if you are a female athlete, you NEED to be doing Copenhagen planks and their variations. Especially if you’re a female hooper. Your knees will thank you, your movement will feel cleaner, and your change of direction gets sharper. BUT I wouldn’t limit this to just athletes… General population women need this too. Because strong adductors + a strong deep core keep your hips healthy, protect your knees, improve balance, reduce low-back pain, and make you more stable in everyday movement. This isn’t just a “sports thing.” It’s a longevity thing. Train the inside of your leg. Train your trunk. Move better. Feel better. Perform better. #copenhagensideplank #adductorstrength #coretraining #femaleathletes #basketballtraining #womenwholift #aclprevention #functionaltraining #strengthcoach #performancecoach #athletictraining #hoopertraining #kneestability #trainlikeanathlete #fitwomen #movementquality #injuryprevention #fitnesseducation #strengthandconditioning #coachlife

More rage bait for some of my colleagues today: I do not use the barbell clean, snatch, or jerk with my current athletes. Read that again before you come for me. Slowly- now, out loud… I have an immense amount of respect for the movements and I KNOW the benefits. Olympic lifting is a tool. Just like any other exercise or apparatus that we may or may not have access to. I’ve also seen the down side of being married to the movements for the sake of saying you can teach them. They can get UGLY. I won’t have anyone do any exercise for the sake of the exercise. I pick and choose what works in my system. Single arm and single leg variants fit the mold. I’m not saying barbells are bad. I’m not saying don’t use them. I am saying that I do not use traditional Olympic lifts in my programs currently (may shock you- but I have in the past). I don’t need a circus. I don’t need to entertain you with my sick moves and how much weight can be thrown around. I need to generate specific outputs. Single Arm DB snatches help develop stability, transfer of power from the ground up, trunk stiffness, and robust shoulders that can survive any season. I like that you can play with the catch position as well. Keep the stance neutral, let them catch in a split stance, vary the lead leg— explore the possibilities. I’m also letting them self-organize when it comes to depth of the counter movement. Some athletes move into a deeper, knee bend squat start, some hinge more, some combo. As long as they aren’t in a position that’s causing them pain or potentially could lead to a poor catch position, I’m probably just watching and letting them show me what they can do. Simple things done well = high return on investment. Stay curious. #highperformance #strengthforvolleyball #lsuvolleyball #healthyathlete #strengthcoach

10 point checklist for the perfect deadlift 🤌 I’ve been a strength coach for 20 years and my highest achievement in the deadlift is coaching the biggest conventional deadlift ever performed, and that is @thorbjornsson with 501kg. It took me a long time figuring out how to deadlift, and a few back injuries along the way. And this is what I’ve come up with after all this time. And it’s yours for free. You’re welcome. #deadlift @strengthsystemonline
