Monday, May 26. Brie: “I’ve been quiet lately. If I’m being honest, I haven’t been in a good headspace. I’m scheduled to finish reversing my ostomy on June 9, but we’ve hit bumps already. As part of surgery prep, I have been meeting with my doctors for scans and, of course, there appears to be complications. It looks like there might be a stricture, which is a tightening of my intestines that might mean that they cannot complete the reversal. We won’t really know until the day of my surgery which way it will go. I’m devastated. I know that there are people that live very fulfilling lives with an ostomy, but I’ve lost so much that all I want is to repair the things that can be repaired. I do not want my husband to have to help me with this part of my life anymore. I want autonomy. I want to keep moving forward and I just feel like I’m slipping backwards. And more than that, not being able to complete this surgery has a domino effect. I need to complete this reversal, before we can really explore a kidney transplant. So, that means that I continue with dialysis four days a week. It is time consuming and exhausting. And it also means that I am not in a state to be really serious about my lower prosthetics, so it’s another delay. A lot hinges on this surgery going as expected. With that said, I will happily take any well wishes / prayers / manifestations that anyone has to offer. Thank you for coming along and holding hope for me.”

First off, we had so much fun making this together for @radiantlearningcollective 's Wicked camp!!! While thoughts & feelings are never this black and white with how they come and go, yesterday was a big day for us and Ava's cast coming off!!! Here's 3 things I learned from a Mom perspective.... 1. PERSPECTIVE is everything and we get to CHOOSE ours everyday. It could have been anger, it could have been victim, or it could be positive, growth-oriented, leaning into God! 2. Which also means just ACCEPTING what unfolds and adjusting. I shared how gracefully Ava did with as she modified and changed all her recital dances and she really inspired me to just accept & adapt in so many areas of my life! 3. I leaned into prayer so much during this time! Just releasing control and handing things over 🤍 Also asking for HELP and releasing control in that way (I'm still working on this one 😉😂) 4. RESILIENCE. Kids are so much more resilient than me!!!! They just do what has to get done! Surgery prep? Check. Let more weeks pass than expected in a cast? Check. Change our plans so they don't involve water? Check. We can do SO much more than we give ourselves credit for. And the real beauty of that is? We're BETTER for it. Stronger. More grateful. Happier. Wiser.
