save this swim workout to try later if you are starting out 🫶🏿 This is what I learnt through adult swimming lessons and practice over the last 6 months! 💫🌟💛🥰 Warm up | 300m 100m free easy 100m kick (kickboard) 100m pull (buoy) Drill set | 300m 4 x 50m (catch up/single arm) 100m easy, focusing on technique Main set | 700m 3 x 100m free steady 2 x 200m smooth Cool down | 200m 100m backstroke or easy kick 100m relaxed free Take longer breaks if you need to, if this feels too hard (I always do), and keep at it!!!! Swimming is so hard, but consistency is key and progress will come with time 🫶🏿 Patience is your friend and you can’t outswim bad technique #swimmer #beginner #swimming #beginnerswimmer #workout

Building a swim workout depends on your goals for the session (endurance, speed, technique, recovery), but here’s a simple and effective structure you can follow for most sessions: Warm up - 10-15% of Volume Lead up set - 10% of Volume Main sweat - 70-75% of Volume Warm down - 5% of Volume Key Notes : Do your technique drills in the warm up and / or lead up set but then focus on the effort and building swim fitness in the main set where you continue to focus on 1 maybe 2 key form cues to hold together under fatigue. Every workout should be intentional. Ask yourself - “ What am I trying to achieve through this workout ?” Please don’t just swim to swim and do so thoughtlessly.

Lifting your head when breathing may be what’s causing your shoulder pain. About half of the swimmers I work with have some neck tightness contributing to their shoulder pain. This makes sense when you consider how often you turn your head to breathe during a swim workout. Neck tightness can be the direct cause of your pain, or it can change how you move your shoulder, increasing the stress on it. One common freestyle mistake I see in swimmers with tight necks is lifting their heads to breathe. This makes your neck muscles work much harder for the same amount of oxygen, meaning more effort for no extra benefits. Oof! If a swimmer lifts their head too much when they breathe, I recommend practicing keeping one goggle in the water and one goggle out when breathing. This limits how much you turn your head, ensuring your neck isn’t working too hard in the pool. 😉 You may have heard this in your younger swim years, and for good reason! Try keeping your head down when you breathe, and you may be surprised at how much better your shoulder feels! #swimmer #swimming #shoulderpain #swimmersshoulder #triathlete #triathlon
